I will like to give you some good news, Dell is finally upgrading this laptop.
I'm talking about getting i3, i5 and i7 cores in this baby, next month!
I don't know if there is going to be other rumored upgrades, but the processor is one if not the most important upgrade that the Alienware M11x should have.
Thank you Dell![]()

Not bad... might even purchase 1 when i-cores come.
-
Feel bad for people who just bought their M11x
-
I knew this since before the M11x even hit retail
-
You did
, how?
-
Great news. I can only say: Yes, yes, yes!
-
I played with a pre-production M11x when I was at their headquarters and the engineering guy pretty much hinted at the arrandale refresh coming this summer. -
A bit off topic, but that Dell-guy is wearing a Lenovo key-cord xD
Maybe he's a corporate spy!!
-
Haha nice, you couldn´t say anything? Like did he tell you to not say anything?
-
now if it had an optical drive, it would be a must buy
-
It is already a must buy! and even more when i cores come to this laptop, I have seen many people complaining about an optical drive, just get a external and problem solve.
-
No he never said anything, I was never bound by any agreements because he didn't disclose it outright. Conversation went more like this:
Me: Ah this pre-production model is nice. You know what would be nicer though?
Him: yeah?
Me: An arrandale chip in this with nvidia optimus.
Him: Oh yeah, we know.
Me: I take it's coming soon, say summerish?
Him: You could say <wink>.
Conversation was literally like that lol. Then I just continued to mess with the pre-production model. -
My M11x is supposed to come tomorrow, and this makes me a little sad. But honestly, won't the i series degrade battery life? And how much of an increase in performance will we even see? How about CPU speeds on these?
-
Performance increase would be fairly substantial. I'd return it and wait. -
Oh well. I have 30 days right? I'll hold on to it, and if they release these within a month I'll make sure they upgrade me.
-
The overall performance most likely wont feel much different, but when it comes to optimized programs for i cores, that is when you will feel the difference.
-
You can probably expect the announcement at E3 in June and availability shortly after on their website. Did you guys notice the Dell guy in the video didn't even mention the M15x? That thing is like the red headed step child of the AW family lol. Don't be surprised if you see it replaced altogether at some point. -
Haha nice bro!
-
Any idea what the return policy is in Canada? I just ordered a M11x this morning, now I see this.
What kind of price increase do you think the core processors would add? -
Hm. Maybe I'll hang on to it then, I'm impatient and everything I've seen says the battery will take a decent hit. For the games I need, the current CPU should be enough--especially since this is meant for portability, and I have my desktop for more intense use. Time will tell, but I think I'll be happy either way
-
I do not agree, I think the performance increase in between the current CPU offering and even a basic i5 would be huge especially in apps like photoshop, dreamweaver, etc... Games will also greatly be affected by the new offering in video cards in the M11X which I can only imagine will be much better than the current one.
There is no doubt that it's worth the wait and returning your current PC if withing that 21 days timeframe. -
Greeat! That's gonna be great. I'll make sure I have enough money to buy one of these before I go back to class in august!
-
Canada is 30 Days, they do have the option of slapping you with a 15% restocking fee but I have yet to hear from someone who got hit with this.
-
So the question is should I keep the current order active and wait for it and then return it if the new release is priced right and has good battery life and performance. Or should I cancel the order and just wait.
Anybody know if I call to cancel because I heard of the new one they will offer me an additional discount to keep my order going. I'd probably keep it if I could save 10-15% more.
What do you think? -
You should just cancel and re-order once the refresh is available. You only have at worst two months to wait...
-
yes , will wait for the refresh to come
-
That is a good decision. You won't regret it.
-
Just called and canceled the order. I can wait another couple months if need be. I'm not really in a rush.
-
My current M11x is still under the 30 day return for another 2 weeks. I'm not even going to contemplate sending it back for the purpose of ordering another one as it is the 4th one Dell ships me and this one is finally in 99% good condition. I've already decided I won't purchase another Dell system so if I return this one it will be to buy another brand altogether.
You're in Canada? You're not getting any discount from them to keep the system. They gladly send you a shipping label to return the system. Sorry to say but if you think you can get 15% off a M11x I think you're dreaming...
-
lol my m11x just came in yesterday..
Whats the return policy
Haha.. Damn you Dell!
-
If it comes in tomorrow and lasts the 30 days without issue, I'll be keeping it. If there are issues, I'll just request a refresh.
-
It's good to put a face to that Dell rep everyone seems to talk to.
Gigs of what? How do you measure graphics performance in gigs? And is there a conversion rate to Vantage or FPS? :confused2: -
I like how his card stripe (or whatever it is called) around his neck says "Lenovo"...
Gigs of imbaness... duh. Btw also interesting how he avoided m15x when he was talking about most powerful notebooks...
And I dont think thats a sales rep, its some general manager.
-
great now i dont want an m15x.. now its between the m17x and m11x
Just dont think i can wait this long for the m11x! -
patience does pay off ^_^
-
Lol, i also thought it funny that he completely bypassed the M15x when talking about AW notebooks being the most powerful in their class.
-
booo.. Mmmm Maybe I'll sell this and upgrade to that for 300$ or something
-
wow lol this sucks just bought one here on NBR.Wonder how big of a performance increase there will be.
-
well now the m15x has a special offer saving me an extra $289 allowing me to get two extra things ..the 1080p lcd.. and the advanced warrenty.. plus it comes with the 6gb ram and the i7 720q ..but offer ends the day before payday.. thats not even worth paying for if im going to pay more for less stuff.. so now im not buying the m15x untill i get the same offer or untill the m11x comes out with the i7 and on the day they are available it will be mine!!!!
hehehe
-
I think most are missing the fact that the new processors would have to be the ultra low voltage versions which performance wise are not much more powerful then the existing processors overclocked. I would say maybe a 20 percent performance increase at best, which is not that big of a deal for a system that can already play pretty much any current game. Its a nice little upgrade, but no reason for existing owners to feel completely shafted. If one were to always wait for the upgrade or refresh, no one would ever buy anything and where is the fun in that?
-
your right about that.. but i wonder how much the i7 will cost.. hopefully not more then 300.. and i hope the lcd is higher then 720p
-
Yeah true I just saw that they're stock clocked the same as the su series. I don't care anymore, but value does go down a lot.
-
What do you guys think the chances are they switch to ATI for DX 11 support? If they stay with NVidia and there is a GPU refresh what are some candidates to replace the 335m?
-
If they would make an M11x with tablet/multi-touch capabilities, I would hand my mini 10v to the 9 year old, hand my M17x-R2 to the wife, hand the wife's M17x-R1 to the 15 year old & buy one within the first week of release.
The current gaming capabilities of the M11x, combined with a ULV i7 processor & the added functionality of multi-touch would just be too much to resist. -
Exactly what the M11x needed. Let's hope there's Optimus on board for latest driver updates, rather than Dell's own releases for hybrids.
-
If it supported Optimus then the drivers would be supported through Nvidia itself right? Meaning we would be not stuck waiting for Dell to release a compatible driver. That with a culv i5/7 would be awesome.
As it stands the M11x is great for most games. With a decent cpu boost it would bump those few problematic games into playability. I'd buy it in a heartbeat. -
So in light of the new video of the "dell representative Pearce Clune talking about a possible core i3 i5 and i7 refresh of the m11x, i decided to go to dell and ask if anything was going on. so i talked to three representatives and asked them if they knew about the new refresh or if they could confirm any of what he said and they said no.
although i do hope that there is a new refresh, to me i dont think that there is going to be one for a while. and if there is a refresh i'll just return it for the new one and not be charged a restocking fee.
but i just wanted to post my findings from dell. not saying there wont be one, im just saying it may not be as soon as many people think it is.
EDIT:
i also wanted to ask if anyone knew the exact performance boost a ulv core iX would have over the SU4100 or 7300.

abaddon4180 Notebook Virtuoso
Are the CULV i-series processors really going to significantly boost the performance? From the benchmarks I have seen of them they don't seem to be much better.
-
i cores + graphic ugrades would be awesome
i would definetely run to it instead of 'skipped powerful' m15x -
Soon or later, it's going to come out but the question is when?
Finally Dell confirms M11x refresh!
