That's what she said.![]()
Seriously though, it will be interesting to see what the refresh will be.![]()

hoping after refresh still $799
-
They will probably try to give a base config that matches the old price. However, the new ix CPU's are probably more costly.
Anyways, feels like we have been waiting forever for this refresh, and we still have to wait even more... argh. -
Damn. Have a brand new one sitting it the unsealed box I purchased from Best Buy over a week ago. I'm still undecided if I should return it for a full refund and wait out and see what the refresh will offer. I pretty much have until Sunday to bring it back for a full refund.
I'm more of a go in store and walk out kind of guy. I'm wondering if BB will carry the refresh, and if they do, at what price? I'd hate to bring it back, just to find out the refreshed version won't be sold there. My version has the 3 mb cache CPU and 250 GB HDD for $899. It took the $100 price reduction offered by Dell/Alienware to bring the same spec'd version to $899 from Dell.
Another factor is the fact I paid in cash and from my experience w/ BB (from a refund on a Launch Elite 360 that RLOD on me on the same launch day
) that they dont honor in store refunds over $300 and have to opt for a mail in refund, which I'm NOT too keen on...... Uhhhh..Decisions, Decisions......
-
nah refresh will be launch maybe early next year... so wait to those who can wait...
-
I know I am fairly new here so take what I say with a grain of salt.
But I was on the phone today with a member of team blackhawk and this person informed me that "unofficially" we might see a refresh in 2 weeks or less.
And that he/she/it unofficially stated it might have core i3-5-7 ulv processors.
They mostly only "didn't" confirm what I asked about. But I got the impression he knew and just could not say. -
It will be Sandy Bridge time by then and the onboard IGP on that thing would be passable against the current 335M.
-
try to call dell tech support they have data base for each dell and alienware units and on those data base posted actual updates or parts corresponding to procs and graphics. i belive the term RSL
-
E3 is the 15th - 17th so that is less than 2 weeks away now. When dell announces refreshes how long is the wait before it is actually released usually?
-
Sometimes they can be ordered from the website within a few days, sometimes its several months.
-
Something like this i imagine dells gonna push out pretty quick. Youll probably be able to order them within the week.
Dont expect too see them in stores for a couple months though. -
Any updated words on the GPU? "Nvidia optimus" doesn't seem quite cut it.
-
i hope this time it comes with the recovery dvd
that's all im asking -
A recovery SD card would be more useful.
-
-
I don't know why they ever decided to give out a recovery disc anyway.
-
Not everyone creates recovery medias and having the Alienware Windows 7 DVD makes re-installing from scratch a possibility if your hard drive happens to fail...
-
is the starting price still under 1k?
-
Since it has not been announced how would we know?
-
No one outside the company will know until it's announced. If this refresh is anything decent, I can put up with the terrible screen.
-
The computer doesn't come with a DVD drive, so it would require you to have another computer. If you have another computer available you could also assume you have access to a Windows installation, etc...
I don't get would it be so hard for them to make a simple recovery USB drive... -
Cost is the main reason plain and simple. A DVD cost pennies while a 8GB USB drive is much more expensive... They give you the DVD, how you manage to use it is your problem.
-
It doesn't change the fact that the DVD is useless in m11x as a standalone laptop. USB key is like $15. So they cut down the cost on USB but then super-overcharge any other upgrade.
-
4GB USB key at cost would be less than $5, probably less than $3. I'm sure Dell could manufacture them themselves, or get a rock bottom deal from any manufacturer. The difference being that a DVD a user can't delete, well they can lose or scratch it, but USB key a user can overwrite the data easily.
-
Dell's main reason of existence is to turn a profit... So let's say they ship you a $3 USB Key instead of the 5 cents DVD. Where are they going to cut corners to still sell the system for the same entry price point? We already know they skimped on the hinge quality on this system so what else should they skimp on to add the usb drive?
-
I got college starting 8/23, you guys reckon I can make it for the refresh?
-
see refresh will be happening next year...
guys for those who can wait, i can suggest wait... to those who could not, then order now or suffer the agony of just drooling of this amazing laptop hehehe
-
It's going to announced at E3.
-
So I guess if I'm gonna sell my M11x I better do it in this next week to get max value!
-
Really the refresh is going to be next year. GRRRRR
I was thinking maybe 2-3 months but man that's not good.
You sure? -
ikas v... hehehe i am just having fun in illiciting an emotional drooling response from those people who really waits for this refresh... for all this, i can say darn... can alienware people really confirm the date of release of this refresh lol
its been an everyday battle of waiting
-
I still think that you will be able at least preorder the refresh by the end of June.
-
Even if the refresh were to be announced at E3, it will still take a while for the systems to reach customers. OK, it might take quite a while seeing how the original M11X was announced at CES (Early Jan) and the systems didn't ship until (mid?)Feb.
I've had my M11X since early March and it's great the way it is- No hinge problems, etc. I don't have any desire to upgrade to a ULV Core 'i' processor-based M11X as this one does all it should and then some.
If anything, once the announcement is made the current M11X might have some good deals going.
-
For me the i-X core upgrade isn't the #1 thing I'm looking forward too. Hopefully a USB 3.0, optimus, and the CPU scaling (yeah I know this kinda goes hand in hand with the new CPU, but whatever) will really make it feel new and fresh.
-
Are you kidding me?
I'm expecting AT LEAST sli fermi.
and dual desktop core i7 processor that are "processor sli'd" together.
if it doesn't have that, forget it then.
-
hahahahahaha

steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
I Agree 100%. Though the geek part of me always wants the latest and greatest, my wallet is telling me that what I've got is great and to stop looking at threads like this.
-
yea, which exactly happen to mine and i believe many other users, not many new dell user are aware of the possibility of the failure to the lame recovery partition from Dell Data Safe, and many user have their recovery damaged and unrecoverabe after that, which is probably is better to have it on dvd
-
after creat the usb recovery, do we need to keep the recovery partition and dell data safe sofwtare? or can we keep the usb and uinstall the software and delete the partion?? the usb created will need them?
-
i just cant imagine how those who purchase their m11x and have return it feels for waiting the refresh... i guarantee that the refresh will be at the earliest on december... so keep on waiting and drooling to threads like this...
-
Ok let just all sit back and start

Lol. Nice one. +Rep from me.

Hm weird I was just checking the m11x and I saw the possibility to upgrade to a Optical Drive : 8X DVD+/-RW Drive for €73. Is this a mistake or ... is this for real?
edit: it was on dell.be -

God, aren't they lucky they didn't listen to you? In saying that though, you were definitely not the only one who didn't believe it (or want to believe it).
We had a reliable source tell us that this would happen 6-8 weeks ago but very few took his word for it. Anyway, it's here now and the new CPU line-up looks impressive. I eagerly await benchmarking scores and game performance results.
Depending on the new CPU's performance I might wait for the slightly higher-clocked i7-660UM in Q3 but I just found out that Intel plan to release a i7-680UM in Q4. We all know what happens if you keep on waiting for new technology... you'll never buy anything!
I had always planned to upgrade my M11x with the R2 once it became available, but I didn't give the ULV C2D's a chance, and they're actually quite capable. But I love new toys...
-
really really hope that dell will be kind enough offer an upgrade for the old m11x
with some top-ups of course ..
any dell person care to comment on this
Finally Dell confirms M11x refresh!
