exactly. and alot of people + this guy seem to point to next month. but personally i think its a bit soon since this laptop just came out in like February right?
-
i think they have online data base for dell system that has current configurations ,also coming soon parts like i3 or i5 ar any hw configuration , i think it was names RSL Recommended Spares List
-
lets go optimus
-
Let's say it does come out next month, I'm pretty sure this will be at least $100 upgrade if not more for i5s. This will put the price to near M15x basic configuration. I'm no business expert but won't this cause a competition between AW products?

I am of the second opinion. Now if it packs actual i5's, or even i3's, then talk to me. But from everything I have seen regarding the ULV i series, who cares.
-
I think this was inevitable. He mentioned CULV i3/i5/i7, so looks like there will be an opportunity for a significant CPU performance increase, but depends on performance of the CULV i3/i5. I haven't seen any early benches or anything.
Based on articles like this one from PC World (May 7, 2010):
Intel to Launch New Processors for Ultrathin Laptops - PCWorld
It states:
Intel will soon release new low-power processors for a class of thin and light laptops that bridge the gap between netbooks and mainstream laptops, a company spokeswoman confirmed on Friday.
The new processors will be available under Intel's Core i3 and Core i5 brands and will power laptops that are as portable as netbooks but have larger screens and greater functionality. Called ultrathin laptops, these PCs are usually priced between US$400 and $800 and provide performance that is adequate to run standard applications and high-definition multimedia.
An Intel road map presented during a webcast on Thursday showed that the chips will be less powerful than the standard-voltage Core i3 and Core i5 laptop processors, which are priced between $133 and $294, according to an Intel price list. However, the new processors will be faster than Intel's Atom chips, which go into netbooks.
So if it's more powerful than Atom, that could mean anything. Not to mention most likely a cost increase. -
That guy is not a sales rep. He is a Head of Consumer Operations, Middle East, Africa and Turkey at Dell Computers. You actually asked sales reps about this....
Duh!

and i can say that the m11x killer that we are all anticipating is really arriving... and it is a new m11x itself sporting a new cpu, i hope they make a expresscard 34 slot i beg them hehehe
i will not be selling my current m11x and give it to my wife and bought myself that new upcoming m11x hehehe -
Damn, I just ordered mine, well my one has advanced warranty for a year

I wouldnt worry about the new one until you see some real world benchmarks.. I am not talking 3dmark06, I am talking 3dmark vantage and game benchmarks... I dont think there will be a big performance increase unless.. you get a true real quad core that runs at 1.7-2.0ghz. Again real quad, not dual with hyperthread. If whichever cpu they choose has a model that will turbo to 2.4 or 2.6 (dual core) that wouldn't be bad either.
To sum up, dont cry yet until you see game benchmarks.. and if they are much better, and you already own a M11x... start saving your pennies now for a mobo replacement. From the video the chassis looks the same.
I am A-ok with that.
Best wishes,
StevenX -

Well, with the new i processor, I might buy one.
-
this may be good news to all m11x future owners, coz pearce clune of dell have recently announced that the m11x killer that we are anticipating with is actually a new m11x itself sporting a new i3/i5/i7 cpu configurations... i guess to those who are having illusion of beating our very own m11x well, you can always just continue to dreamed on... hehehe
by the looks of thier chassis configurations and design, without a doubt that it is engineered for future upgrades, it can even house and sport a mxm GPU in the future where you can practically upgrade you GPU by buying a new gpu card and simply plug and replace it the stock video card... so that come to show that the design and looks, the m11x will always standout, and for the engine of this baby, future upgrades will render awe from those who will not opt to get themeselves with this awesome m11x'es.
that is correct, if you have already had a m11x now, you might just end up buying a new mobo for this baby.. and replace and boom you got a new engine inside the hood of your old m11x chassis... -
does the HDD stuck on the oldmobo or we can put the old HDD on the new mobo?
-
your old hdd can be used if the alienware guys will construct the new mobo in same dimension as the current m11x. what will be only replace if our prediction will push through is the mobo
-
I'm now really torn. I was planning on ordering an M11x next week, but if I do decide to order it and the refresh is released at E3, I'd be cutting it somewhat close if I wanted to return it.
Is it 30 days from ordering, or from when it is shipped? If I did decide to get it next week, I'd be banking on it being available on (or very near the end of) E3. -
-
Still? I've been lurking for a couple months and have seen users lately getting their systems pretty quickly. If I were to order today, Dell stated it'd ship by the 7th of June (though I know these numbers change).
E: Dell rep says 21 days from shipping date to return for no restocking fee. -
Core i7 ULV looks like a pretty big upgrade over the current core 2 duo offerings. While the stock clocks are similar to the current core 2 duo offerings they can overclocked to 2.4 ghz for the 660UM, and there are rumors about an even faster one coming out in the fall that can be OCed to 2.53ghz.

Well this is good news
Just what I was waiting for a CPU upgrade with the latest tech and finally a chance to upgrade your own CPU!
No chance it's soldered to the MOBO,( I hope)
This is very good, I think I'm jumping back on the bandwagon.lol -

I just got my M11x two days ago, and it is amazing. Considering that I have the M17x and this baby is simply for portability (Starbucks etc) I am not concerned with the upgrade to the Core i3, 5 or 7. This upgrade may increase performance somewhat but it will also increase price as well, and most likely decrease in battery life, and maybe even an increase in heat issues. So I will stick with mine and enjoy the looks it gets
and the purpose it serves.
-
will wait for more details, don't really care about the CPU upgrade it's not going to have a significant impact on game performance and for my everyday use the ULV Core 2 Duos are just fine.
I care more about a LCD upgrade (from that video don't seem like there is one), a reduction in foot print ( from the looks of things the weight quite heavy, thickness is still very thick), and any possible upgrade to the GPU ( the only possible upgrade is the ATI 5650, so not a major upgrade in this front either) -
Spoke to Alienware cs manager mentioned this site and told him of i3 i5 upgrade. He advised me to wait because i 3 and i 5 would be coming out in a couple of days. Then we got disconected.I got him back and he said he did not know specifcally about mx 11 but knew dell looking discontine older processors on many models .He did say that when the change told place based on other models the price would go up at least 80 bucks .
-
lol well 80+ bucks for a marginal upgrade to me is like upgrading from the su4100 to the su7300. not worth the upgrade. im on a student budget and the only reason im getting the m11x as opposed to a 15x or 17x is because of the budget.
but im sure the new cores will make alot more people jump on the bandwagon because everyone freaks out when they hear that the processor in the m11x is 1.3ghz. -
Thats the same thinking I have. I have both for two differant reasons. Since the R1 will be discontinued, I'm just going to wait till I start having issues, and then maybe it'll get exchanged for an R2. I'm not to concerned with it though. -
Note the rep stated 6 1/2 hours battery life. With the R1 M11X they stated 8 hours so looks like the i series consumes more power.

This has me thinking maybe I should sell my M17x and buy a desktop and refreshed M11x.
-
arghh i want an i7 in my m11x
-
I hope improvements in the M11x R0 drivers are not neglected when the focus swings to the new M11x R1.
I'm still happy with my current M11x, my Desktop does the heavy lifting. -
I'm happy!
-
Hey guys, i recently recieved an m11x but the damn thing keeps blue screening every 15 minutes. Do you think i should just request a replacement, or get a refund and wait for the refresh?
-
I'm definitly interested in getting one of these with an i5 cpu (didn't expect them to be released so soon), though I think i'll wait it out untill they make a more sturdy design without the breaking hinges, and the screen comming out issues.
Kind of funny when the guy said they have the most powerfull 11 and 17 inch gaming laptops, I don't understand how they can live with clevo offering a stronger 15 inch model though. I'd say the 15 inch size is one of the most popular ones for people who want to do some serious gaming, and still want to be somewhat mobile (though in the 15 vs 17 inch alienware poll, most alienware fans clearly voted in favour of the m17x). -
If the Asus UL30VT (culv core 2 duo) -> UL30JT (culv core i series) refresh is any indication, don't expect major improvements. After some disappointing and lackluster UL30JT benchmarks were released, a lot of NBR members bought the "old" UL30VT. -
i literally ordered mine a few days ago! looks like i will return or cancel the order depending on the stage it is in.
-
if u think the new m11x won't be much different from the old one. i can tell u, u are wrong! alienware is not stupid enough to upgrade a laptop without really had a major changes.
always the upgrade had a major impact on the performance especially this laptop might already have optimus technology and turbo boost.
and for those who keep whinning it won't be a much change, go and believe it. be naive and don't try to change your opinion in the end and don't buy the new one. -
This is pretty awesome. I am in need of a portable system. My poor m17x doesnt even get a full hour on battery unless i got everything throttled down and im on the 9400m.
-
Those extra threads will make a difference in Shattered Horizon and in Battlefield: Bad Company 2. I'm eagerly awaiting this update.
-
Does anyone know how the integrated graphics on the i series ULV's compares to the strength of the current integrated graphics in the m11x?
-
Well, I had to read the whole thread before commenting.
Anyway, I'm up for this. I'm glad I waited. I was considering the 5870's upgrade but I am gonna stick with 4870's and get one of these instead. Man, I have waited for an i-based M11x since they were first announced.
Finally I can send this Eee PC packing. -

yeah i knew that would happen,
ordered mine a week ago -
how much will the mx11 go up in price with the refresh 800 is about s high as i go
-
If it comes with a metal chassis then Im sold
-
I knew Darkhan was right all along. Too bad he's not as active anymore. Damn Engadget put him on the spot.
-
yeap i am sure the old chassis will be retained because the chassis is design for internal upgrade because of the sheer spacious internal compartment of the m11x.... i would guess that you may opt to buy the mobo with the cpu gpu internals and plug and replace the stock mobo of the current m11x for that simple upgrade for those who have thier m11x already.
-
I hope they keep the chassis, or make it cooler (is that possible?), because it the M11x chassis changes, they will change the M15x and M17x chassis's to match. If they look cooler (once again, it that possible) I won't mind. But if they go back to being blank slabs like the area-51 line and most other laptops, I'm buying a G73.
-
well I guess my girlfriend is going to be getting this one so I can order the refresh.
-
Finally Dell confirms M11x refresh!
