I own a m11x R3, performance is fairly better than my 6year old gaming desktop and all is great with unicorns and rainbows etc. But when fan kicks it to the MAX i get horrible performance drops, like it switches at the power management from max performance to balanced for the GPU...

It only does that while the FAN is goin at max speed, when its barely blowing it works great, just now i was playing Half-life 2 and when the fan kick in it drops from 160fps to 25-30fps... as you can see it is quite severe...

Anyone else have this? is there some hidden option or something? i did get latest Nvidia drivers too...

Same happens with some other games... some games like grid don't feel like i get FPS drops, but i can't be entirely sure as it doesn't show fps.

It is an odd thing in my experience with computers and i am not quite sure what to make of it. If nothing helps ill try doing factory reset on it, maybe its something software wise.

    Thx for any help.

sounds like temperatures are getting too hot so the cpu is throttling down... maybe a notebook cooler would help, or at least elevating the notebook with the cord to allow ventilation.

yea, get HWmonitor and use it to watch your temps, i dont know about the r3 but in general you probobly dont want to see anything over 90 degrees C, if you do then its a cooling issue, get some canned air and blow out the dust in that

First off, sorry for the late reply.

No it doesn't seem to be overheating, even though i like to keep the lil tiger elevated so it would get some more air to breathe. I did complete deus ex without no such framedrop scenes, and some other graphics heavy (well for the netbook obviously) games. Even without keeping something under it to keep it breathing better, i wouldn't get framedrops.

Seems to be strictly issue with switching graphics for JAVA apps. New driver release seemed to remedy it to some extent but its still very well there... Could be just the stupid (spiral knights) game, as i keep getting screen flashing for a fraction of a second to desktop etc. Strange issue i suppose, but i guess i will have to wait for some fixes software wise.

Would be interesting to know if anyone else gets similar issues with java and optimus? Strange indeed, didn't really hear java to shine in stability front tho. Ever.
