I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate because get the feeling the OEM windows 7 home premium supplied with the m11x R1 was buggy and slow in my opinion.

Also the freezing issues when opening the config screen (explorer.exe) I thought was caused by the Home Premium installation.
I did a clean install upon receipt of the m11x of home premium, but still felt slower than I'm used to compared to ultimate.

I also wanted to check if the 197.72 drivers can be used without getting into test mode and installing the modified drivers.

And it seems I can run GTA4 (1.,07) and Fallout New Vegas without any modifying on medium/high settings, while I couldn't even get GTA4 going whithout stuttering with all the modifications mentioned online.

Also no more freezing when opening the config screen.

I know the new drivers are better, but I don't want to run in test mode just because driver support is lacking.

So I'm sticking to the old 197.72 drivers with ultimate.

    Thought I should mention this.

I guess I am a bit confused on your posting. I have the 197.72 drivers installed on the r1 with the factory installed OS and haven't seen any issues in terms of frames on medium setting with Fallout. I didn't have to run with test mode either as these were dell hybrid drivers.

Did you have issues with these drivers originally? Did you see an increase in performance/functionality while in game now?

I definately am seeing an fps increase (I havent measured it) while on ultimate now. Don't know why ultimate should make a difference compared to home premium it came with, but appearantly it does.

I couldn't play New Vegas and GTA 4 without stuttering, GTA 4 freezed for about 5 seconds every 10 seconds while moving.

Good to know you have no problems with your home premium?

Yes, none to report. However, I have heard that GTA is pretty much unplayable on the M11x, so if your playing without any issues than Ultimate (or something) is causing you to have better performance. Maybe just a clean OS install?

It is just because your new windows is clean for all the apps that m11x Home Premium has... It is obvious that ultimate will look much better and faster, but it is the same OS. It is a driver talk, more than a OS talk...

As I mentioned in my first post, I did a clean install of the supplied Home premium upon receipt of the m11x.
I get the feeling it is an OS thing, but as mentioned wouldn't know why that should make the difference.

Same drivers used for all hardware on Home premium and Utimate, but I needed to get the newer 260 drivers to get GTA and New Vegas to run without stuttering on Home premium.

I find this strange, but I'm very satisfied the way it's running now.
