Hi guys!
This is a thread for new R1 users and how to boost that performance from the get go.
-Make sure you do a fresh install as it helps the system clear out any uneeded software
-overclock if you plan on doing any serious gaming
-Download Game Booster, it does add a few FPS to demanding games like BFBC2
-Try StevenXOwens network throttling edit (THIS REALLY HELPS)
-Upgrade drivers for pretty much everything
-If Gaming is your priorty you will need to go into your BIOS and switch to Discrete graphics so you can download Nvidia drivers. Dont do this if you don't plan on plugging in everywhere you go like me![]()
-please make sure you have switched your battery settings to high performanceas it can drastically change game performance
If anyone else has anything else they would like to add just post a reply
HAVE FUN
-good luck, Jesse

Nice tips, same goes for the r2? Should be getting mine soon... hopefully tomorrow.
-
yeah, for the r2, i would also suggest Throttlestop
-
Overclock:
ThrottleStop
MSI Afterburner
Komboster
EVGA Precision
Fresh Install?
Install new drivers. -
What is EVGA?
-
EVGA Percision is just like AfterBurner but made by EVGA instead of MSI. I heard it has more errors than the MSI one and less stable OCs. So I would suggest MSI over the EVGA software

what does changing the battery settings do for performance? just curious.
I thought those were mostly idle times, screen brightness, etc. Nothing that would actually make the machine compute faster. -
Battery settings changes the power management of the system. For example if you enable Power saver, you won't have optimal performance because its limiting the power to devices (cpu, gpu, etc)

I was looking at past threads and came across this... anyone know what edits this is and does it really work? Here is a link to the original thread thanks!!!

It's just a reference to a guide some guy (stevexowens792) made, all this does is stops your network traffic from being throttled. Here's the original post i'm assuming that thread was talking about:
To disable network throttling. (This helps ALL network or online games)
1. Start -> run -> Regedit
2. Choose File -> Export > then export your registry in a safe please in case you mess something up. ( you can import it later)
3. Choose HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> MICROSOFT -> WINDOWS NT -> MULTIMEDIA -> SYSTEM PROFILE
4. Here you will see a setting on the right hand side called "Network Throttle Index"
Double Click the actual word NetworkThrottlingIndex. Notice you will see a field called Value Data and a BASE called Hexidecimal and Decimal. In the Value Data change it to read ffffffff. Again that is ffffffff. (that is 8 x f)
5. Make sure you hit ok and then shut the machine down gracefully. (meaning do a full start -> shutdown -> then power off. Then boot back up. viola. -

Merged the two threads for easier reading.

Rishwin, as a noober when it comes to software could you explain what benefit this will bring?
Is this relating to my broadband speeds or specifically for a network? -
