I am very new to overclocking, but successfully got my r2 @160 to run stable prime95 (24hrs) with .95V (thanks to DavyGT) & OC 550/840/1320; 3dmark06 score 7992

I am happy with the results but I have a general question:

Do you run your OC settings at startup? Are there huge repercussions to battery life?

Yes, running on startup is good.

I haven't found huge repercussions on battery life with the BIOS mod or with BCLK overclocking- I lost 5 minutes in gaming time for the BIOS mod and the CPU will slow down at some point due to the limited Turbo Power Limit.
Throttlestop can change the Turbo Power Limit, allowing you to run at full speed but I don't know the effect it has on battery life as I don't use it while unplugged.

    Thanks for the response!

I was able to play one round of BFBC2 before it crashed; should I clock down? I am using TS and the 270.61 drivers. GPU-Z logged that it started to crash when I hit 82°C
