Hey all,
Just got my m11x all set up how I like it, but now have the opportunity to get an SSD. I'd rather not reinstall all the drivers and what not, when I just did a clean installation on the previous drive. Is there any way to clone the drive, without any special hardware, and then install that "image" on my new drive? Or is a fresh install just better?
Thanks!

When moving from a Mechanical HDD to a SDD, it is always best to do a fresh install. It allows you to get the full performance out of the SDD. Its more of a pain in the , but it is worth it with the money invested in those SDDs

Would Clonezilla work for that? I've only done HDD to mechanical HDD, but I've used it in the past myself.

I'd be interested in seeing what data you have to back this up? I've never heard anything like this.

Well, ended up wiping and reinstalling anyway. Holy crap is this thing fast. Win 7 installed in like 10 minutes, and maybe another 20 for all the other drivers and whatnot. Very impressed.
Thanks for the replies!

There really is no better upgrade for your system than moving away from a mechanical hard disk.
Enjoy! -
This was the case on older OS like XP, but I think with 7 it makes very little difference as it was designed in the SSD era, with built in support like trim, etc. I've gone both routes with different machines and neither suffer compared to the other.
At least that's what my research has led me to believe! Happy to be contradicted if anyone can show it... -

We always recommend the fresh install. For future reference here is how you do the full Windows installation
Getting an SSD, cloning question.
