Dell M11xR2 Review: The World's Smallest Gaming Laptop Goes i7
-
Good spot on review.
I liked the last part where it mentioned about its "future". -
Yup, another spot on review.
-
Amazing review I thought
-
There have been enough i7 reviews. I want some with the i5!

Hm, so Optimus is really more of an Opti-mess around this time. Nvidia better get their drivers working reliably very soon, or the technology will suffer from "Windows Vista" syndrome.
I hope alienware is cracking the whip, because they're the ones whose image suffers... -

Just wanted to make sure everyone saw the UPDATE that was made to the review near the bottom of the page. It was the driver that was giving him problems, have high hopes for the new driver release he mentions.
-
^thanks for that. Do you know when the update was posted? I ask because he keeps mentioning drivers out "next month", and I'm wondering if he's referring to the 258.96 that we have now or some other version.
I also think his metaphor wrt Optimus is great

The most frustrating part as an owner of an M11xR2 is Dell's control over driver updates, and the fact that they're so far behind NVidia that we have to have users here like Kopicha and Nautis to get max use of our machines.
As a desktop gamer who is used to switching out components and updating drivers as I please and not being locked out by the brand name company I bought the computer from, I can't stand this. And honestly, even though I love my R2 and recommend it enthusiastically, the principle of having to go through Dell to upgrade my software as much as they make it a chore to upgrade hardware probably means I won't ever buy a Dell again when it's time to upgrade.
If Alienware didn't make such a powerful gaming machine in an 11" netbook I don't know if I would've bought this, as much as I love it, because of exactly the driver BS Dell and Alienware put consumers through.
If they insist controlling how you update your drivers or software on their "gaming" computers, then they need to have their updates day and date and posted the very second as Nvidia or ATI or whomever or get the Frak out of the game.
I really wish when the owners of Alienware sold the company to Dell that they'd negotiated a deal for Dell to keep their hands off of Driver updates when they sold the company.
This is my one and only pet peeve of owning this machine, but it's enough to make me think twice hard about buying Alienware or Dell again.
Sorry, had to vent. -
i truly agree with you on this. given that on Nvidia site they actually advertise M11x under their optimus recommendation. but how funny is that the drivers from Nvidia themselves actually doesnt support the hardware directly. this is absurd. nonetheless we can still mod drivers to get them to work. i know its a bit of hassle that is not needed actually but looking on the bright side will probably make you feel better.happy gaming!
+1 to u -

So far Dellienware has been doing a pretty good job of not being very far behind Nvidia with updates. In the case of the first beta driver that they provided, it was provided because they asked Nvidia for it. OEMs are always going to lag behind Nvidia. Once Nvidia drivers include R2 support then no one is going to be reliant on what Dell does or doesn't do.
-
I can't wait until they finally include r2.. =\ I hope someone makes a huge post about it when they do, so I won't miss it! haha

Guys, there's a part where it says that the GT335M kicks out when you play 720p HD videos on youtube? Is there a way to fix it? Does it happen with google chrome browser?
