It's working alright so far, but it appears to lag out a little here in there. Just a massive slow down, and then back up.
My bluetooth mouse appears to be having the same issue, I would probably call it chunking.
Otherwise everything is fine, I think I might do a fresh install of Windows 7 just to make sure the copy from Dell isn't all f'd up.

And I'm going to have to take it apart too. They put the right side USB ports in crooked, and the palm rest is raised above it too. Oh well, I might toss on some new Thermal Paste when I do that.
-
Not good news hope you can work it out
-
congrats oakley, make sure you check other drivers and all. and yeah do the fresh install and make sure its not f'd up. -
hmmm, my bluetooth mouse is acting similar.
actually, after about 30 minutes of use it disconnects and then wont reconnect unless i restart... -
I am using a razor orochi and it is working flawless. But I have a Microsoft Bluetooth and it does like you describe, disconnects and wont show back up till a restart. maybe it is the mouse? Didnt look into it anymore once I got the orochi.
-
sounds like a bluetooth problem to me. or a driver issue. but i would be complaining to dell about the usb's not being installed right. that kinda sounds like the motherboard is crooked.

hey oakley, did you get the same power adapter as everyone else or the new one?
-
-
-
Once again, three generations and they haven't gotten it right. Amazing...!

Oh yeah, and the keyboard has a huge bulge on the left side. Yeah, I think I'm going to tell them to send me a new one. This is BS. They can build it for me correctly, and I'll swap my hard drive over.
-
Alienware quality control is slipping tsk tsk tsk.
-
you see wadda mean.. lol.. all the wait and this is what dell gives us in the end and i thought they test the system before they ship it. hmm i bet they are getting lazy to test the system nowadays. but i cant raise my temp yet til i get my system.

As far as build quality in the m11x line is concerned, for all practical purposes the r3 and r1 are identical except for the redesigned hinge, (critical). -
I sent an email to the Dell Escalation person that I have been working with today explaining all the issues. And, basically telling them I expect my new laptop to be new, and not "fixed". So I am waiting for a reply.
I just don't feel I should fix it, or someone should come out and fix it. I feel I should have a new laptop in good order. -
That sucks, but if it is jacked up that bad you definitely should get a new machine.
-
Found out what the issue is with my bluetooth mouse. Apparently one of the transmitter/receives in either the mouse or laptop are having issues on the right side of the computer. when I move the mouse to the left side of it, it works just fine. I wonder if I can add or modify the antenna.. Hmm..
-
ok i have called dell and talked to a rep and he said it comes with the latest power adapter. but idk if the rep knows what i mean. well anyways 5 more days til my edd expire and it better be delivered on the expected edd..
-
hey oakley can you take a picture of your usb and the jacked up keyboard. i would like to see how it looks like. -
-
sweet ty. the reason why i ask is that i might get the m11x r3 tomorrow and i wanna see how yours look like compare to mines. this is my first alienware product and i will go through a list of things to check my new m11x...

Here are the pictures of the USB plugs and the palm rest buldge. I couldn't get a good picture of the keyboard. Looks like they jammed the daughterboard with the USB/Sound jacks in funny.

That's really terrible! If you haven't already, call and demand a replacement. If you need to, threaten to just ask for a refund. If they continue to fight it (I doubt they will - they want to keep your money) ask for a supervisor. Don't bother with emailing them; it will just delay resolution.
I called and got a new replacement for my R2 just because it had some debris under the screen; your system is messed up much worse than that.
Sorry to hear about your bad luck!! :-( -
Jeez that thing is jacked up.
-
But otherwise it has been working fine. Well, except the bluetooth. The bluetooth radio kinda sucks so far. But we'll see if I just got a bad one.

Cool! I'm sure you just got a bad one. I haven't had any issues w/ mine (aside from the fairly loud fan). Bluetooth is great, no assembly problems; keyboard/palm rest are perfectly level, screen doesn't touch the keys, hinges feel sturdy.
-
Just got my replacement R3. So far the build quality is great. Keyboard is almost perfectly flat. USB ports look how they should, and everything appears to line up. The only issue I noticed with the replacement so far is the power button sticker is dented (Not a big deal) and they put 1 wrong screw in the backplate that was too long, and the retainer fell out.
Right now I am imaging my old system to copy to the new one. So we'll see how it works. -
Hey about the battery indicator. Do any of you guys have to like push it a bit hard to see how much battery life you have. It's annoying to have to push it down hard and damaging the plastic indicator button. What i did to fix that problem is to apply a thin, small piece of card board paper on where the button is at. I stick it in the hole so it won't fall out but easy to take out later with a toothpick. Now its really easy to check my battery life.
Got my R3 finally. But...
