I got the fast track i5 rig and its been OC to 164 FSB and I have been using the battery everyday to test battery life. I tweaked the profile to make sure I get the most out of the battery.. idle comp activity with 3 bar brightness and alienFX off uses 9.5k mW (used battery bar). At 3 bar brightness wifi on, AIM on, browsing, some word processing, some power point slides I get 5 hours and 30 minutes of battery life before it hibernates.

Interesting.... Looking forward to see how long it can game. Thanks for sharing the result.

5.5 hours is good, i was personally hoping it would be on par with the core2duo cpus but 5.5 hours is nice. i wonder if another 0.5 hours could be squeezed out. can't wait to hear from the i7 owners. i want one of those owners to be me lol ship already!!!!!!!
-
Got 1 hour and 50 minutes of constant WoW playing and GPU + CPU OC. I bet I could squeeze another half hour for 6 hours of battery life when Im just surfing the web if I didnt OC the cpu or if I decreased the brightness.
-
5.5 hours works just fine for me, more than I expected honestly. Good to see it's what I want
my r2 can't arrive fast enough!
-
This is about what I expected from the R2. Still has great battery life. Thanks for sharing tassadar898.
-
Ty for the battery life info, +repped.
-
Thanks for the info dude +Rep!
-
As I've mentioned in other threads, I've been getting 5.5 hours as well.
-
Nice battery life. I just mine with an i7 two days ago. Its O/Ced to 162fsb, idle with 1 web browser open, 3 bar brightness, no lights it uses 13w, bringing about 4:15 hours. Profile is on balanced. I'll try play around and see how far i can stretch the battery.
-
Hmm isnt that pretty poor battery life considering R1 can get around 3.0 - 3.5 hours constant gaming before the battery wears out?
I thought the i5 had around the same battery life...
On general browsing with LED and WLAN disable but with WWAN enabled I get around 6 - 6.5 hours of battery life.
I think alienware state around 4 hours for us R1 users on constant gaming but I havent reached this yet.. -
What really? I had a full size laptop - Sager 15" something lol P9700 + 260m and it got 2.5 hours web browsing... gaming? probably 30-45min max.
-
I don't know how much gaming I get off a full charge (might have to play some Bioshock 2 for a couple hours later) but I just got 35 minutes with 1 hour remaining according to battery bar. Maybe a little less than half normal life is what I am expecting, I don't OC though.
-
Well to add some info, i also got a i5 core and not oced, with just word processing and web surfing, wifi one, bluetooth off and one step higher then the lowest dim setting i am getting 6 hours and 13mins and usually the laptop is only charged to about 93-95% i havent been doing gaming due to my mcats
but can be tweaked for better battery life -
So the battery life appears to be the same when doing general web browsing on the R2 but around 1 - 1.5 hours less when gaming on the R2?
-
I would say 1 hour or so less all around, from what I have read almost everyone is getting ~5-5:30, i think Thran is a lucky one or something hahahaha, maybe I am just wishing i got better battery life.
Thran, do you use batterybar? If so can you post up your battery capacity? Thanks -
How about if you game while using the Power Saver windows profile?
-
I use a modified power saver profile at all times on battery life, unless I am going to watch a movie. I will do a quick test right now to see how the battery fares. For simplicity I will use the default power saver.
-
For power saver on Windows 7, make sure cooling is set to passive.
If you want you can also change maximum processor state to 50% (50% is say the CPU is 1.2GHz, both cores of the CPU will be locked at 0.6GHz (600MHz) or less - note that there are separate settings for on battery and plugged in). -
I am getting an estimated 2 hours 22 minutes playing Torchlight right now, which for some reason is not running as smoothly as I would expect. If there is a bit going on on the screen my framerate will drop below 10, everything is maxed, maybe I am running Intel? I would imagine this thing can handle a game like Torchlight with no problems.
-
That's not normal. On my Acer 1410 CULV w/ Intel 4500 MHD, I can play Torchlight on high settings, no lag whatsoever. And everything I've read and heard says that the Intel HD IGP in the iX series procs are significantly more powerful than the 4 Series IGP.
Maybe check your drivers & power settings? -
That's what I was thinking, what's going on? I am running power saver w/ background dls, and firefox up. But the system is i5 w/ 4gigs ram... something seems wrong, no turboboost is enabled but that shouldnt make such a simple game lag like it is.
-
I have an average of 2:15 for gaming with BatteryBar on Power Saver, forgot I had the keyboard lights on for a while but that should be minimal impact, I was also downloading WoW in the background.
-
battery life when watching a movie ? (4-5h ? on the intel)
-
Yeah, it depends on brightness, but I get about 4-5 hours.
-
Find another full sized lappy or any lappy that can pull off 2 hours of gaming on battery with full performance (ie the same performance as if it was plugged in) and i'll give you a high five.
Many full sized lappies can't run the graphics card on full power without being plugged in. The rest die within 45 mins.
Therefore, 2 hours on battery with full fps and cpu is pretty awesome. -
yea i do, when i get home ill post that up for you ; )
-
I don't know what happened but my power usage jumped from 12 to 16000, i dropped max cpu to 50% and it seems to be making things worse, I can't pull over 3:45 now........ I am beginning to really wish I went with that r1.
-
13W sounds a bit high. I think it should be closer to 10W. That's what they have on laptops like ThinkPad X201, which has a non ULV i5/i7. With the previous generation ULV CPU's like the SU7300, one could idle at 6-7W.
-
13W is about as good as I can get this thing to run at for normal web browsing. I am testing an as low as I can go modified power saver right now with good success so far, stays right around 12-13W most times, but at the cost of 25% maximum cpu speed. I am running with TurboBoost on, will do another trial tomorrow without it.
Had m11x R2 i5 for a week thoughts on battery life
