There are already several threads on this. The graphics card will always be enabled. The wifi works. Stuff like that. I myself haven't done it because I do not see the benefit in it. For this hardware and all the driver issues.]

I have. Everything works fine besides the Dedicated GPU. There are ways now to turn it off as well.

I use to be into Linux big time and even installed it on my m17x for a duel boot. But until steam works out of the box, why bother on a gaming machine. Was fun to figure out how to do it.

I've tried it using the Live CD. Works well as a secondary operating system for a gaming PC like this. I REALLY like that WiFi works out-of-the-box on it, first PC I've installed Ubuntu on that did, all the others I had to install the drivers myself, which is not fun when you have to compile them yourself from the windows drivers...argh....lol

I'm still not sure why they don't port steam to linux. They made a OSX version which is unix based; im sure the code wouldn't require all that many changes to be honest. The only reason I use windows is to game otherwise id drop it in a heartbeat.

Surprising. Ive done at least 15 linux installs on different boxes and at least 7 of those with wifi cards and the drivers always worked out of the box. Linux is great at being useable right out of the box.

The reason for most of the support is it is prepackaged with a lot of things. Most of it isn't needed but they throw into the live-dvd/cd image a lot of driver support.

I run Gentoo so I don't have that kind of support. Most of mine out of the box comes from compiling a custom kernel with driver support.

Has anybody tried gentoo on an m11x?

Download it from this link. When it's done installing, when you boot up your computer you can choose between Windows 7 and Ubuntu to boot.

    Download | Ubuntu
