Did you copy your entire original HDD?

No doing a fresh install, with the windows 7 disk that came with m11x....seems to install fine, but it will just not boot to windows after it restarts

Boot from the windows CD again. When it gets to the "Install Windows" screen, click on "repair your computer" on the bottom left of the screen.... If it says it found a problem, let it do an auto repair and reboot to see if that works. If not, go in and click on command prompt.

When in the command prompt, do 2 things.
    1.
    bootsect /nt60 all

    2.
    bootrec /fixmbr

doing these should fix the problem.

I don't even get that far. I am installing windows, I reformatted the drive, windows 7 is installing to drive, says it installs succesfully, then restarts. Goes to alien book screen (F2 or F12), then goes to black screen with the cursor flashing in top left corner. I am installing from CD/DVD drive after pressing F12 at Alienware boot screen

Exactly. You need to do what I said from the windows disc.

I would suggest you also copy the backup partition from your m11x's old HDD first into your new HDD and then do a fresh install with your recovery disc.
