So, I recently posted a thread with Mass Effect frame rate problems, which I solved by installing the most recent driver from Nvidia, and switching my graphics mode in the BIOS to use just the Nvidia card due to my not wanting to use the hybrid drivers.
Mass Effect now works amazing well, but now when I closed the lid on my M11x and open it back up, all the lighting will come on, but I get a black screen! Help!

go into the power options and set it so that everytime you close the screen it doesn't do anything.
-
That only sort of solves my problem though...
The specific driver is
266.58
Anyone else having any issues? When I was using the standard Alienware/Dell one I never had any issues waking up. -
sorta because it avoids that way of putting the PC to sleep? i assume it does the same if you go to start > shutdown > sleep?
for me if it's on it's on: if it's off then it gets shut down...sleep, like hibernate, is a waste! -
Its a problem because when I am in class I do not always have an outlet available, and so I close the screen when I am not using notes, and with multiple classes that stretch the whole day, I need my battery as much as possible =/
I am going to try some other drivers, I have a strong feeling that is the root of the problem.. -
well, my first thought would be to shutdown the m11x when you're out of class and have it set on power saver mode when on battery.

Same problem here; sometimes when I'm not taking notes during class time, when i close the lid/re-open it too fast, i get the black screen. My solution, or at least the only one i have found , is to push the alien head power bottom 8 sec. and turn it on again.
If you find any solution, please post it on this forum , i would appreciate it a lot -
The solution is rather simple - unfortunately, this is a common issue from time to time with display drivers. I have seen this with multiple laptops and NV GPUs. For the 17xR1, we had this for 2 or 3 driver revisions from NV.
You have two options:
1. Edit the NV driver INF yourself and look for any issues which may cause the screen to be blank when resuming from S3 (info on this can be found via google and also on LV2Go)
2. Revert back to the Dell driver or another NV driver which does not have this issue
This is unfortunate, however when you use a modded driver this can happen. -
Ahhh, I usually get this, a hard re-boot fixes it. But you could just turn off the sleep function when you close the lid like someone said above.

Sorry to bring this back up, but I just had the same issue.

Close the lid, open it up and all i got was a black screen (though keyboard lights up)
Nothing worked except leaving my finger on the alienhead for about 10 seconds. Is this a hard reboot?
Also, before I discovered the hard reboot, tried to open the bottom of the laptop but all i had was leatherman with a small standard screwdriver, well i ended up stripping the middle screw and my screwdriver tip broke off (shocking for a leatherman!!)
what do you do with a stripped screw?
(fyi, i didn't have the proper computer tools, i work for DoD in some austere locations) -

I ran into the exact same problem when I had the stock drivers that came on my R1. I'm not convinced it has anything to do with your drivers because I have updated to the latest hybrid drivers from Dell and it still happens occasionally. I just created a batch file on the desktop to put mine to sleep. Just double click it and it goes to sleep fine and wakes up fine, every time. I did have to disable hibernate through DOS prompt before it would work right, though.

ive had 2 different R1s with combos of multiple different HDDs and OS installs. both R1s acted like this.... even with Dells older display driver.
also resuming from hibernate will result in not booting 1/3 of the time for me. its like it just doesn't save the data to the HDD correctly. it goes to resume but just halts...
it really sucks because i love to hibernate with the lid closing, but i have grown to live with it considering that is really the only thing i have to complain about with this laptop. everything else is 100% awesome!
