Hi, I have been trying to use the blue color for all zones in the AlienFX editor. It does work for all zones except zone 2 (keyboard). I have updated to the latest version of AlienFX editor with success.

For zone 2, the white color is yellow, blue does not work and any color composed of blue does not work.(red and green work, so I can get any color between red and green, i.e. yellow).. the only way to display the correct color is if I hold the left CTRL key.. however, once I let go, so does the wrong color.

Is there a software solution to this problem?

    Please help meh!

This is an issue with the keyboard part itself, I had something similar it happen to me when a technician botched a repair job when repairing my hinge.

They came out and replaced the entire keyboard and it worked perfectly fine again.

Get onto technical support and get them to fix it.

santo, you can try re-seating the keyboard connections. This might resolve your issue (especially if this is a new system and has always been like this).

WARNING: Obviously this involves opening up the system. If you are not familiar with this, my suggestion is to have support handle it. If you feel confident, then give it a go.

    Instructions are here:
    Documentation

    A note on screws -
Be VERY careful when tightening screws of the bottom cover. They can easily be stripped.

Again, if you are hesitant at all after reviewing the service manual and the youtube tear down video, do not proceed. Contact AW Support. They will send out a tech with a replacement keyboard and the tech will replace it. If any damage is caused by the tech, it will be covered. If you cause damage, you are out of luck.

I contacted them today and they wanted $200 to upgrade my repair service to come to my house. My only other option is to send it in, however, I run a very busy eCommerce business so I think I'll go with BatBoy's suggestion.. I've already tried disconnecting the battery (I did notice how easy it is to strip the bottom lol, funny you guys mention it) I guess the only worry I have is scuffing up the case.. I really don't think my keyboard is broken, the colors do work so I suppose that's a good sign. In any event, I will rewire it right now and post my results. Hopefully I can help other members with this same problem.

where are you located? To my knowledge, all AW systems purchased in the US and in the UK provide next day business on site repair for the standard 1 year warranty. Might want to double check by calling support back again. That just doesn't sound right. Unless of course its a regional thing in your country.

If you are in the US, call them back tomorrow. What the rep gave you about having to pay 200 bucks for on-site is NOT correct.

Im in California and I purchased the machine at best buy. He said my warranty would only allow me to send my comp in to be repaired. He then said I could upgrade my comp to another additional year with on-site repair. He's name was Carlos and i called at 5pm PDT. Could he just be trying to push his montly quota on me?

hmmm... did you already do this?

    Dell - Register Your Product

Might need to do this in order to properly access your warranty. I could be wrong as well - perhaps retail location purchases do not qualify for on-site repair. If you did not fill out the above form, do so and then call and find out what the story is.

Fixed it! I reinserted the keyboard and backlight cables and secured the keyboard and bam! Works like it a should.. I think I may know how this problem happens. The chords are directly placed under the CTRL, Shift and Fn keys, so pushing any of those buttons over time causes some looseness with the chords. That's why pushing any of those buttons applies pressure to that chord and restabilizes the connection and I was able to see the correct color.

    Thanks for all the help!
