    Hello everyone,

    I have had a M11x R2 since fall 2010, running Windows 7 64bit.

Yesterday I sprayed laptop-designed compressed air into my keyboard and fan area to clean out dust. I have used the same brand/can before multiple times on my R2 and never had an issue.

Since then, my fan is ALWAYS on at full power, even when I'm not running anything intensive. If I pick up the laptop and hold it in the air or on the side for a minute, it turns off and goes quiet. If I then put it back down, within a minute or two it immediately kicks up again and stays there. If I feel the laptop, it's not very hot at all (which it shouldn't be, because I'm not running anything heavy!)

The loud noise is driving me nuts. I can't even imagine how much this will annoy people in class. Does anyone know what happened or how to fix it?

    Thanks in advance.

Use this software to figure if the CPU and GPU Overheat. http://www.hwinfo.com/files/hw64_392.exe. Go to sensor and watch the GPU&Cpu temperature. Over 67C my R3 get loud. Try to figure if the fan turn because he overheat or he just for other random reasons.

    good luck

Well, when I play a game then it gets REALLY loud right away....even though my GPU's temperature on my video card (according to another program I have) is only around 59 degrees.

So it's loud no matter what, and really loud no matter what when I play games.

you can test the cpu fan using the alienware boot testing software, restart your machine and as it boots press F11, then select " diagnostic tools " ( ithink its called that anyway) , it will do some mandatory cpu and ram tests, ( takes 20 mins or so ) then brings up the software, in there there will be a test for the fan, it tests the min max and off speed of the fan and reports back , if i remember correctly on my r2 it went from around 3.5 k rpm to around 4.3k rpm for the max,

might have some gunk caught in there from the cleaning. If so, might have to pull it apart.

this is what i would suspect aswell, maybe you should firstly do the diagnostic thingy mentioned above and then open it up and try too see if it all looks alright.

(The fan on my R2 rarely stays on full speed when gaming and when it does it goes to max speed and after a while revs down again)

I tried this and I had 4100 at the lowest to 5400 at the highest. No idea if this is normal.

During the CPU testing that came before I could test my fan, I swear that I heard something go "click" somewhere in my laptop and that the high-pitched whizzing sound/constant max noise on the fan is a little better than before...but laptop is still kinda loud even with no games or big programs running.

had to test mine again to confirm numbers to see, came out at 3700 low and 4500 high, so it does seem like yours is a little high, though i cannot vouch for tolerances in the fans,

Have you looked at your fanblades through the mesh? check if nothing has come off or is causing turbulance?
