You're not going to get much answers in the 6 month - 1 year and > 1 year categories since the M11x has available for less than 6 months...

Maybe the mods can merge this poll into the other Hinges thread else we'll have 2 threads

Poll edited, added 'Nothing wrong with hinge' option as some have no issues at all - poll may be combined with existing hinge thread. I seem to recall a similar poll on this. If anyone locates it, PM me or post here and this one will be closed.

    Thanks.

Mine has come loose and there is a lot of play. Not really broke, just shoddy and annoying. I'll send it back when I get time in about 5 weeks.

mine was 22 days since purchase. i should have noticed earlier, but the entire left side seemed to be badly put together. but dell repaired it (didn't accept a replacement from the store, actually) and it was absolutely rock solid.

I've had no issue with mine. I've owned mine for 3 months and have taken it on many trips. Hinge is still hanging in there :p

My broke within one month, did not send it back, it just going to happen again.

Quickly took the case apart, put some liquid steel on it, put it back together, back of the case does not fit down 100%, better than having play in the screen or cracking noises.

hah, just seeing this polll for the first time! I bought my m11x R1 in march 2010, the hinges bork'd themselves (BOTH) in sept 2010 ... I just had the tech come to my house and replace the entire screen thru my 3year warranty -- according to the over-the-phone tech who I first reported the trouble to, he told me that they had updated the hinge-build => meaning (I thought) that my new part would be built differently, and not be susceptible to the same hinge issues that everyone has been experiencing (myself included). anyways, now that I have my new screen and hinges, I am noticing that they LOOK the exact same... I am not 100% sure about that, but it sure 'looks the same'. anyone else notice this? I'm hoping every 6 months Im not going to have to get a warranty service for my hinges.

btw, within the first 4months I had a HDD failure (500G 7200rpm)! that was a sad day... thankfully I was smart and got a warranty plan

If you read the larger hinge thread, it turns out that customer support was told to lie to people that there was a fix, but really there is not.

I just bumped this thread to try to get a larger sampling......

I refuse to buy extended warranties and would rather throw this away after a year than keep it for three and deal with replacing hinges for $200 or whatever the EW costs. In less than two years this will be ancient technology,,

Hard drives are cheap. I don't think I would even call out Dell Tech on a bad drive unless they just send me a drive.

I have mine for one month, I go 22hrs by plane with 3 inspection in every airport....used my laptop while waiting for my flight....used my M11Rx2 for almost 15hours straight in airport (open & close my laptop when they serving the food, going to the bathroom, take a nap).....I think my M11Rx2 got brutalized but don't get any problem with that hinges problem or I even noticed any hinges problem.

you guys are missing how great is M11R2, because of this so called hinges problem.

I'm not sure how the hinge breaks, exactly. But the plastic strip above the keyboard (the one with the alien head power button) doesn't snap down all the way in the middle (BETWEEN the two hinges).
