    Hey everyone,

I recently purchased an m11x R2 and received it today. I noticed that Nvidia released new drivers, so I thought, what the hell, ill install new drivers. So I uninstalled the old Nvidia drivers and restarted the machine. Next I tried to install the drivers and the executable says that I dont have the hardware, which obviously I do.

So how do I install those drivers? Does it have to do with Optimus and the fact that in the desktop environment its running my Intel card?

Can you ignore the warning and install anyway?

you can probably run the installer - execute the extract - note where the files are extracted to, and then run a manual install by executing the update via windows instead of the installer.

I'm not sure exactly how the driver packages have changed for the R2, but give this a try if you really want newer ones.

Download the driver from Dell, and also download the Nvidia driver you want. Open the Dell file, and let it extract somewhere. It will then start the installer. Immediately exit from it. Do the same thing for the Nvidia driver. Know the locations both of these extracted to, and copy the Nvidia drivers into the correct part of the Dell package. Install the Dell package from it's actual location.

This was lksing78's method, and it works great on the R1. I'm running switchable 197.16s.

can you try the optimus drivers from NVIDIA DRIVERS 189.79

This version does not have the m11x in the supported list as the driver is April release but it is a higher version than on the Dell support site, 189.79 (nvidia) vs 189.69 (Dell)

The new 256 driver states that hybrid is not supported ( so R1 are out of luck w/o modifications ) but I thought I read somewhere that starting from 256 optimus is supposed to be supported. Was that just a rumour?

The 256 series of drivers (currently at 257.21) is Optimus capable you may need a properly modified inf file to have it work properly though.

Looking at the 257.21 driver hightlight, yeah optimus is there.

Since m11x R2 is still new, hopefully 257.21 is only missing the IDs to install and future driver updates, the m11x R2 is included by default. Else, I don't see the point that the optimus page on the nvidia site features the m11x and yet they don't support it.

you should be able to just add the 335m IDs yourself or do a force install in the device manager.

I just find it weird they don't install because these drivers support Optimus. Has anyone had success in install them?

I don't know how to do that, and honestly should not have to on a gaming machine.

Did you uninstall the old nvidia drivers then tried to reinstall the new ones? Or did you try to just install ontop of the original drivers?

Ah alright. This is frustrating that the official ones don't support the m11xR2. I wonder if anyone has got it working other than modding the drivers

I just took a look at the 257.21 Verde INF for Dell/Alienware and you are correct, it does not include the proper lines for the M11xR2. I have added them and modifed some others to create a proper INF for the M11xR2. This INF also enables something I have not seen before which is "OptimusEnhancements". Not sure exactly what it does so if you see something new let us all know.

257.21 INF for Alienware M11xR2 - Replace the existing nvdm.inf with this one and install. (You also may need to right click the link and "save as..".)
257.21 INF Comparison - I have also added a fun little comparison file that shows the two side by side with the modifications highlighted in red. It is a standard html file.

1.) Download the Verde 257.21 drivers.
2.) Extract the drivers from the exe using something like winrar or universal extractor.
3.) Download my 257.21 INF linked above and overwrite the one in the verde 257.21 folder.
    4.) Install and enjoy.

Thanks for the hard work. Just a quick question. You just simply modified the .inf so it would be recognized for the m11x R2 right? Or did you put some other "tweaks" in there. Just checkin!

    Check the comparison.

I have basically just added the ID strings in and pointed them at the proper locations. I have not added any extra tweaks beyond what was already in the 257.21 or the original R2 infs.

As is usually the case the INF was almost already fully setup for the M11xR2 it just needed the ID strings. The only other things I did beyond that are copy over a few other lines from the original R2 inf to enable ToggleWidescreen and GlitchFreeMClk. I also commented out the EnableCoprocPowerControl line since it was not in the original inf. If anyone wants to see if this line does anything just remove the ; before it.

That is it, no tweaks or anything else of any kind.

Nice. They should just apply this to the Nvidia Drivers page.

Assuming Dell and in turn Nvidia is properly notified about this I am sure it will be fixed in the future.

What I think happened here is that 257.21 was technically released before the M11xR2 (remember it takes a while for WHQL certification and things) so it does not include the proper entries for the R2.
