I want to disable it, but there's no info about it anywhere. I've checked Device Manager, Setup, the manual...what gives? I have the M11XR1, built in early 2010. I've seen posts mentioning Synaptics this and that...perhaps I'm missing a driver?

Good possibility that you're missing the driver, or something may have possibly come uplugged via the laptop falling or something or the sort, I'm unsure. This is strange and have never seen something like this before.

check the alienware command center, theres an option to disable it from there when you plug in a mouse.

I've looked everywhere in the Command Center and can't find any mention of a touch pad or a mouse. Which section is it in?

I think I've found the answer - there's a Synaptics driver on Dell's drivers page. It's dated after my machine was built.
