So the title says it all. I would like to overclock my i5 on my m11x but I have no idea how. Once I get my computer fixed(if you read my other posts you know) I will be overclocking it. I think I saw some software that a dell rep downloaded that could overclock but I dont know what it is and can't look at it right now.

To overclock all you have to do is press the "F2" button when it boots, then use your arrow keys to navigate over to settings and you'll find the overclock. Drop down to which ever mHz you intend to overclock to and hit enter. Exit savings changes and you're done

The BIOS overclocking does absolutely jack btw the way changes it as many times as you like and check your clock speed and benchmark results 0 difference.
You cannot overclock a QM model it makes Intel a LOT more money that way as if you want to overclock you pay the price of an XM. It is a ULV at the end of the day and doesn't need overclocking it is powerful enough anyway the I5 nearly hits 3Dmark results of that of a Quad 720QM 1st gen and the I7 ULV does. -
Ok thanks for the responses. Can you explain those abbreviations, iirc, QM, ULV, XM? Also Yiddo in your signature, after the Nvida GT 540M it says 800/1100/1600. What is that?

ULV=Ultra Low Voltage.
QM=Quad core processor Mobile.
XM=Extreme edition Mobile.
Using MSI afterburner Yiddo has been able to overclock his GT 540m to 800(Core Clock)/1100(Shader Clock)/1600(Memory Clock).

The BIOS overclock on the R3 is rubbish, i don't think it actually gives any performance gains and it also only lets you overclock it by the SLIGHTEST amount. But as Yiddo said, it doesn't need it. With everything I've thrown at this baby, not once has it ever bottlenecked at the CPU or shown any signs of slowing down. -
The only reason i wanted to do this was because when I play Starcraft I have to play it on low settings because when I get into a fight with 30+ troops it starts to lag. Thought this might be a GPU issue but I didn't know you could overclock the GPU. Is this normal for the m11x on starcraft?

As you mentioned to me in PM your temps are very high so I would fix the cooling problem before looking into Overclocking, your troubles are going to be the throttling of your CPU/GPU due to the fact you are running above 90oC. However for the record,
As mentioned above I also find MSI afterburner most user friendly and you just need to follow the generic way of overclocking to find your highest overclocks. You can normally increase the clocks by 100mhz on each section Core/Shader and memory to begin with and then gradually increase by 5-10mhz a time using something like Furmark to test to make sure you see no lock ups, crashes, freezes, or for the memory artifacting (strange blobs of colour flickering on the screen out of sync).
My clocks max out at 840/1135/1680 but they are not entirely stable so I drop them down to the nearest hundred mainly for that reason but also because I have OCDsoftware that is stable on one clock may not be on another.
Remember that every card is different meaning every overclock maximum will vary between users so you cannot compare to what I or someone else achieves you must trial and error yourself to find your highest 'stable' overclock. I notice next to no difference in temps on this card its is a good little overclocker. 90oC + on stock clocks shows signs of a dust blockage or fan problem otherwise it could degraded compound or worst case scenario a detached heatsink or hardware issue, if you have not yet tried compressed air in the vents that is your first point of call.
How do you overclock? I'm a noob :D
