I currently own an Alienware M11x R3 with a Core i5 processor and 4 GB RAM. I have a good Blu-Ray collection and I am considering to purchase a new external Blu-Ray drive for the laptop.

My main concern is the performance of the Blu-Ray on the laptop. My roommate has a decent Toshiba Satellite with Core i5 2.5 Ghz and sometimes it goes bananas while playing the disc.

Would installing a 128 GB SSD improve the Blu-Ray performance?

There isn't a single video about this on youtube. I would really appreciate replies and suggestions. Thanks.

Yep fine, I have an external blu ray drive which I was using on my M11x perfectly at 1080p. It can literally do anything apart from high end gaming. It could even do 3D as well if it didn't have optimus.

Installing an SSD will do nothing for Blu-ray it will massively increase boot time, load times, increase battery life and decrease all hard drive related noise. In essence an amazing upgrade.

Toshiba, I wouldn't even buy a microwave from Toshiba. The M11x is a Sandy Bridge model with a dedicated GPU. Nuff said.

I use my Alienware m11x R1 with my blu-ray driver. No problem at all...

I do not think you need a Powerful Pc to watch HD movies...

Yiddo explained it really well, you won't have any trouble playing Blu-rays in your M11x R3.
