I've only had it for 3 days, but this thing has been a beast with all the applications I've had to run. It is just as fast as my Quad Core desktop when it comes to database tasks I need for my business.

Played some Mass Effect on the highest settings this morning, great sound to my ARS Technica headphones, and I just ordered an extra HDMI cord to pump this suckers content to my 120" projection screen. It's going to be a backbone of my business. Couldn't be happier right now and I can't imagine Sandy Bridge comparable is going to come near it on the price I paid

    awesome, she's my baby <3

    Just another laptop.
Wanted a dedicated GPU and good build quality in a "netbook" size unit so i got this one. Nothing too special about it.

I thought about naming my M11xR1 SC366349 which is the service number of Samantha Carter, which shows some sort of affection for the device. The M11xR1 that is. :D

The technical nature and value of threads lately is up there with trying to snort milk-shake out your nose.

At least from the gutter to the latest thread quality level is less height for me to scale. :)

Nope, I was wrong, somebody, somebody, I've fallen down.

Really, really a meh computer. Hinges just are... annoying. Broken them 4 times. I should have builded a desktop beast loaded with quad SLi 5970s sapphire OC'ed (Can you do that?!). Not really impressed. Regret buying the system. But it gets the job done, and the M11X R1 looks superb! Quality build apart from hinges. Here in New Zealand, its sort of impossible to come across a place that sells PC hardware/parts. But overall, I regret...HUGELY.

lol iv had mine for months and never had a hinge problem, maybe try being more gentle to it? anyone who isnt gentle with their hardware should expect it to break at some point.

The hinge does have a defect. Even Dell has acknowledged this fact and will replace it if it malfunctions. Just because it hasn't effected your m11x yet doesn't mean it won't somewhere down the road. Oh and apparently it doesn't matter how much you baby the laptop. It is not because of opening or closing it too hard.

I used to carry around a M17x at school... Now that's heavy! Anyone who thinks a 4-5 pound laptop is heavy needs to start lifting those weights!

My Girlfriend and family refer my laptop as my "Mistress" when I use it when they're around.

if your hinge breaks i wouldnt even bother calling alienware, fix it yourself with some epoxy, and it wont break. alienware bringing a new top half of the laptop and just replacing it is just gonna prolong the problem. look on youtube, theres a guy that fixed his the same way.

I really love the fact that you can get one for roughly the same price as an a top of the line IPad.

In terms of gaming, as an owner of both, there's no comparison.

I don't know what it is about this machine, issues and all, it is my current sentimental favorite out of my 3 machines (My G73, and my self built desktop)

A lot of it has to do with aesthetics. I have everything lit up purple, except the Alienhead power button and wifi/caps lock indicators are green. So I dig that, but it's also the size and form factor. The keyboard still feels spacious and easy to type on. I love the click of the keys. The unevenness doesn't bother me as it's an easy sacrifice to have so powerful a GPU in such a small form factor.

It's great to travel with, as other's have mentioned, it's the perfect size for gaming on a plane with a tray table. (Although the oncoming PS NGP could put a major dent into that)

If you're a serious gamer, and bought this for gaming, then it's easy to fall in love with. If you bought it, just looking for a productivity netbook with a little more power and features, then yeah, you want a Macbook Air.

But you can't really game on Apple's gear. App store games you can, for sure. But not any big AAA console/PC releases. Unless you do a dual boot system, but then you're dealing with components that are 3x behind what's available for the PC, at 3x the price of that PC. The dreaded Apple tax.

I've been playing a lot on my M11x and get a lot of real enjoyment from it. I'm psyched because I wanted to feel like I got some good game playing out of it before upgrading to an R3 as I do believe it will be announced this month, and I do believe the dreaded hinge issues will definitely be fixed.

But the R2, really has been impressive in terms of performance. And the drivers for Optimus have gotten noticeably better too. I've been playing DCUO piped up to my 50" Pioneer Kuro and running the game at 1080p with no issues.

It's a very, very impressive piece of tech.
