I purchased my M11x April of last year and having gone through the hinge issue and more recently a dead battery for the first time in my life I am considering extending my warranty.

I fully admit that I have not contacted Dell about this, mainly because I don't want to go through the sales pitch. So does anyone know what the standard price is to extend my warranty?

Besides the issues, I do like this little machine. enough to keep it for 1 more year ;)

I've read some dell support nightmares, but mine have been just ok. Dont like the fact that support is pushed off to India. But seems like Alienware has its own line so I haven't had issues with being on hold too long. Although one time I got hold of a tech support person who put me on hold indefinitely.

if you used your own credit card, check if there are any manufacturer warranty benefits that come with it. my chase extends any warranty out an additional year, so i essentially have a 2 yr warranty on my M11x.

i actually purchased it through Dell Preferred b/c of some 2 or 3% discount, but upon realizing this warranty coverage, i immediately canceled the order and re-purchased it on my CC.

I just extended mine after it just expired today and it cost me $199 for a yr. extension with In-home service. But with 3 service calls in 2 weeks for the same problem and a little complaining... I got it for free!! :)

Its cheaper to extend it before it expires because otherwise they have to charge a recertification fee. Best thing to do is call they have a lot of different warranty packages. You can't really say how much since its so variable, especially when you can talk them down on the price and ESPECIALLY if you are having problems with you're unit they will give a discount. Some reports of a free extension. (Rare though because thats where they make there money..)
