I now regret not jumping on the $230 for the 3 yr Advanced during my purchase configuration. I understand they hit you with a big increase in the cost of that warranty if you opt for it AFTER purchase. Is this true?
How much more do they charge for it?
Can you get or use coupons to lower the price?
Thanks for any info...I have "hinge anxiety".
(Have not received my laptop yet.)

Why not call Dell directly to ask? I know some people haggled the price down during the initial purchase, so you may be able to do that, in which case any reply you get is going to be inaccurate anyway.

I paid ~$150 for a three year warranty including accidental damage protection from squaretrade---something to keep in mind, if only for haggling purposes.

I already have called them and could get no real answer. They said when I get the laptop to use the account number on the white sheet to go online and look at my options for getting a warranty after purchase. They would not tell me what the price might be or if it is higher than the $230 at time of configuration.
I have a feeling I'm going to get shafted...just a feeling, mind you.
    Anybody have experience with this?

Well that's pretty annoying of them. When they said you need to use the account number, do you know if they meant customer number, order number, or dell purchase id? If it's any of those, you should be able to get them online by clicking on a link in the email you got when you ordered. I think it needs to be one of them because I don't remember seeing other numbers on the sheet that came with it (I'm on vacation at the moment so can't check to be sure).

I paid about 600 after taxes for 5 years @ home service on my replacement system.

The shorter the term, it costs more, like 180 per year on @ home service. Now this does not include accidental. I think they asked about over 200 for 1 yr extention.

I got a follow up letter selling the warranty for 3 years at $370.

There was a promotion for a free $75 gift card if I bought before 8/09. I didn't buy it.

I'm going to call the rep that sold me the Alienware on Mon. and see if they have a two year option as in 3 years this machine will be too be obsolete as a gamer.

There's an account number apparently given only on your invoice in the box with the laptop which is needed to access a special area on the Alienware web site - that's what they were referring to, I think.
Cripes, I passed up the bargain of the century when I failed to get the Advanced with accidental for 3 yrs for $230. Wish I had known at the time.
Well, I refuse to pay more than that after the fact.
My credit card from Chase extends the Dell warranty a year, but that will not include accidental and if they play hardball on the hinges I'm out of luck.

About two weeks after my M11xR2 arrived, a Dell rep phoned me and offered the extended warranty at a discount. I think they said it was $70 off if I bought right then. After reading about the hinge issues I jumped on it. 3 years advanced with accidental for ~$220. I am in Canada though.

Man, I haven't gotten a call or received anything in the mail about warranty extension. At this point I think I'm going to wait until 9 month of ownership to see how this whole hinge thing plays out with R1 and R2 owners. That will be in March.
