Can I just update the graphics drivers or do I have to use Guru Driver Sweeper and all that too?

I have this question as well. Contrary to the above, mine has never allowed an update via the official Nvidia installs. Always says hardware not supported. The drivers have to be modded I think and you have to run the whole safe-mode drive sweep before installing, I believe.

Just like I said. If you have a modded driver then yes you have to sweep it. If not NO.

And no, the drivers DO NOT have to be modded (258.96 was modded in the past because nVidia did not add the M11x optimus string). Now the new versions ALL support optimus. FYI for anyone that cares (I notice this gets asked a lot) 266.58 works fine. I am currently running them on my R2 and I get glorious frame rate all around.

Don't forget to update the integrated card as there was an update on 2/2/11. It has been reported to decrease power consumption and ironed out some issues.

For Optimus based systems, be sure that you ALWAYS install the Intel Display Driver first. Once done, NV driver follows.

    I suggest the following:

*Disable Windows Automatic Hardware detection/Automatic Driver Install*Info on this can be found HERE

    1. Uninstall NV driver via Control Panel (Programs & Features CP)
    2. Boot into Safe Mode
    3. Run CCleaner's Registry Module to remove any left over traces from the NV driver uninstall
    4. Reboot the system normally (no safe mode this time)
    5. Once back at the desktop, Windows may install the Standard VGA driver. This is ok and nothing to be concerned with. If it does, reboot the system again.
    6. Once back at the desktop, run the Intel Display Driver installer again for good measure (even though you didn't uninstall it, running it again is just to keep it consistent). If prompted to reboot, do so.
    7. Run the NV driver installer. Reboot after the installation completes.
    8. Once back at the desktop, whitelist your game .exe's.

    Done.

I dont suggest DriverSweeper simply due to the lack of updates. Just my 2 cents of course. Everyone has a routine they prefer.

You can run those driver packages? I just reformatted to factory reset, ran all of my windows updates, and I still cannot install 260.99 or 266.XX. Each time I get the same error:

Supported hardware not found on this machine. Any ideas? I see the 335M in device manager running the 257 driver.

Make sure the intel driver is installed. Also, check the threads we have in place - again, as I mention below, I am almost 100% positive we have threads for both of those driver vers.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Losing the NV control panel can be associated with some of the modded/reference drivers. Wouldn't be the first time this has been seen. LV2Go has several instances (not system related but driver modding related).

Not sure on the reference driver. Without checking, I am almost 100% sure we have a thread going for 260.99 and the 11x. Check for it.

I realize that but its a NV reference driver - so, there can still be issues. In any event, reinstall using the method I listed. If still an issue, repeat the install process but this time use the Dell driver - NV CP back?. Once done, repeat again but with 260.99. If the issue is still present, then there may be a prob with 260.99. Check the 260.99 thread we have.
