This has also done wonders for my VM's. My WPrime score in VM is actually faster than my native score. I'm still trying to figure that one out:

What's XS? - for the uninitiated like me
And where can I download the latest ThrottleStop? The links are no longer in the first post.

i did post this in the benchmarks but as it is linked to TS here goes,

    i7@166 100/100 or 20/60 (doesn't make difference from testing) m11x=8 between 24.3-24.8 each run.

    3dmark06 8672
    GPU 570/1368/910

    Imageshack - 61694274.png

Don't think 9K is possible! Have tried pushing shader a bit higher but not getting reliability.
Considering we were struggling to get 8000 in the early days this is quite an epic jump in performance.
Not really had chance to benchmark many games but the little I did shows no effect on Crysis but I believe the GPU is the limiting factor which has already been documented in these forums somewhere.
    BC2 seems better and F1 2010 a little(poor poor optimization anyway/whens that patch coming??)
I think Dell are mugs for not unleashing the full power of the ULV chip. I appreciate battery life argument etc. If so buy an R1 for that. Let the i5 and i7 be what they really want to be
    ....fast

Thanks Cosmin. for posting those links to ThrottleStop at the Dell M11x site for me. I didn't go to the Dell forum trying to cause trouble. I was just trying to help other users with this new found power so their laptops can finally run at full speed.

When I see the incredible difference in wPrime scores, it almost looks like I've found a way to hack wPrime but no it is true. The fastest dual cores are going to have a greater than 50% improvement in full load CPU power. That extra power will be felt anytime you are really using your laptop.

Bily42: The first post has my signature in it and the ThrottleStop links are there for anyone new to this and of course the links are also right there vvvvvvvv

hey unclewebb can you possibly post a new set of instructions for v.2.89? since there's quite some change in the interface and I figure things out with the instructions in the first post.

A 50% increase in performance = 4 donations = no hurry to work on this project further but I will update the first post in the near future.

With version 2.89, everything is simplified. All you have to do is download the program, run it and click the Turn On button so it shows ThrottleStop Enabled and you are pretty much done. Right click on ThrottleStop as explained in the first post and increase the TDP/TDC values. This should give the UM processors a big boost in performance if it was previously having turbo throttling issues at full load. People that have overclocked the BCLK in the bios will notice the most dramatic gains in full load performance.

You can also click on the Set Multiplier option and make sure that is set as high as the adjuster goes but that's about it. I haven't seen any clock modulation issues with these laptops so far so there is no need to check either of those two options.

The only change in the interface is the new Force TDP/TDC setting in the options window that lets you fine tune this feature without having to edit the INI file like people were doing during testing. With ThrottleStop running, push the F1 key and scroll down towards the bottom of the docs where this option is explained further.

Keep in mind that I don't own an M11x R2 so I can't show you detailed pictures of settings that I don't have access to on my Core 2 CPU. I've been doing a lot of winging it. :)

Thank you MassiveOverkill for your support. I appreciate it. More donations would allow me to buy some new hardware so I could make my tools even better. It's getting difficult to do this type of programming for Core i UM CPUs when I only have access to my Core 2 Duo laptop.

Maybe your laptop is running too fast now. It's going faster than your brain or eyes can keep up with. :D

Thanks. Some beer money keeps me motivated. :)

djr53: When a tweak lets you drop a second off your wPrime time it's pretty cool. When this tweak drops 14 seconds off your wPrime time it makes you run that bench a couple of more times just to make sure.

The 1024M is even more insane for the change in times.

How much are core temperatures changing because of this when gaming? Anything negative. I haven't heard of anything bad yet.

Unclewebb! This is a great utility, except that no matter how high I set any of my settings my multiplier will NEVER go above 18. Nowhere near the 24-25 I'm hearing from other people.

My wPrime scores are in the 12's, and I can't seem to get a settings "palate" (if you will) that pushes the CPU faster. I'm a little worried about increasing my TDP/TDC 8x above where they started (55/47) as I know that's way outside normal boundaries. (Or at least, I think it is.) I've tried checking any combination of the top three boxes (clock modulation, clock mod, multiplier) but haven't gotten any changes beyond the meager millisecond improvement.

Does anyone have any ideas about what I can do from here?

Sorry I should have said Clarksfield............which apparantly have :p That's a damn good score, as my Dual Xeon 5560 gets 11's in a VM with 4 virtual cores. (yeah I know it's VM, but there's not much of a performance hit on an undercommitted host)

Haha, oh no! If that's a good score then I'm stuck. The original reason I was looking to tweak my CPU was to push out more performance in Crysis. If I've already got a good score then it's back to the drawing board!

Still going to see if I can't get this utility to push my multiplier higher, of course, as that just seems too valuable to pass up!

Head into the Options... window and have a look at the bottom right for the Force TDP/TDC option. That's what this trick is doing so I thought I would name it that. The values entered into that window are the same as the M11x= INI option that older versions were using.

This Force TDP/TDC option is not only for the M11x. There are some regular Core i5 and Core i7 dual cores that this is going to help too but I haven't had any feedback on that yet. Someone will figure this out someday. BTW, this info was already added to the first post and is included in the docs that pop up when you push the F1 key while ThrottleStop is running.

RealTemp and ThrottleStop both use the same WinRing0 driver and that's a problem. If you try to start both programs up at the exact same time there's a good chance that one program will fail because it can't open up this driver. I might try to rearrange the delay time to reduce the possibility of both of them trying to open up the same driver at the same time. Windows chokes on this.

Unfortunately I think it costs over $500 a year to get a driver signed for Windows x64 and ThrottleStop and RealTemp donations combined don't come close to that. WinRing0 donations aren't great either. Last time I checked, the developer has stopped distributing WinRing0. :(

If Microsoft ever decides to enforce the Digital Signing date on the WinRing0 driver, ThrottleStop will stop and that will be it.

flawlesscowboy: ThrottleStop isn't going to do anything to improve the multiplier on a Core i7-720QM or similar processor. These CPUs have the TDP/TDC feature locked so there is nothing for ThrottleStop to do for a CPU like that unless you have clock modulation issues.

MassiveOverkill: You'll have to try and find out. All I know is that the WinRing0 driver gets finicky when you try to start two different programs that are both trying to open that driver at the exact same time. For one user that wanted to run both programs at start up time, I created a small script so one program would start and then there was a 1 second delay before the other program tried to start. This was perfect and cured the problem. If I get a chance I will play around later today to see if I can build in different amounts of delay into each program at start up to work around this driver problem. The real pain is when one program doesn't start, sometimes Windows blocks it until the next time you reboot. I just put both programs into the same directory. I don't think creating separate directories with the WinRing0 stuff in each makes any difference to this issue.

Hey guys, this is driving me nuts.
When I first saw this thread I installed Throttle Stop, adjusted my TDP/TDC, and received a 42% performance increase in the game I’m playing (according to its benchmark).

Anyway, I rebuilt my m11x, same OS, same SP, same video driver, same everything. By “rebuilding” I really mean restoring an image I take right after a fresh install with only drivers, so I’m running with the exact same software as before.

Now throttle stop does nothing… I’ve tried everything, variable TDP/TDC, M11x=16, 10, 8. Verified BIOS was not modified, everything and I just can’t get it to work. I have tried version 2.85, 2.88.3, and 2.89 with the same results.

Any ideas where I can get started? I’ll be honest and admit I have not read every last page on this thread…
