It could well be down to your RAM. Try it with one stick, then try it with the other.
If you can get a higher overclock with one stick it could mean one stick is not as good as the other.
The options after that is to install a 32bit OS and change the timings with software I can't remember the name of.

If you are getting BSOD over 170 it means that it isn't stable, whether it is the ram or the cpu causing it. To find out what is stable, try lower than 170 and run Prime95 overnight or Intel Burn Test for 10 or more runs at max settings and see if it passes the tests.
I think the popup thing is normal because when you change the settings with SetPLL, it always has that popup. Since you have it load at startup, it does it when you load the computer now. You can disable those Windows warnings popups completely, I don't remember how to at the moment though. -
I'm also trying to do some overclocking atm using setPLL. I tried to overclock it to 170 but the laptop restarted itself before successfully overclocking (the screen showed some horizontal scan lines for a few seconds before it shutdown). So I tried to overclock through the BIOS and I was unsuccessful at even 160. I was able to get it to be stable at 156 though(20 runs of IntelBurnTest with TS). Does this mean I will not be able to go pass 156?
Edit: Just tried 158 and IntelBurnTest says it's not stable -

I tried the setpll last time and my m11xr2 just reboot itself but could not get past windows startup due to bsod :S
Can anyone help me? I can OC to 167 on bios and works well at this settings.
THanks -
After lowering my timings to 7-7-7-20, with one stick (Yet to test the other) here are my results
On the most demanding part of the witcher it goes from 16FPS average to 25FPS average:
NIIIICE!

hai all. 1stly i want to thnx to mardon for his instruction to oc further.. i tried all of those but i have problem on changing the max battery on intel graphic setting.. surely it doesnt change the fact my oc can got until 185.. and i have a another problem to share.. my aw is m11x r2 i3 330um and currently overclock to 185 using setpll.. its basically stable after using intel burn test 20times on 4 threads and max setting.. but i want to oc further.. and i notice my ram is holding my oc..
i try to oc using 1 ram stick.. n i could go to 194 without any problem.. after awhile i notice about thaiphoon burner.. so, i install vista 64bit n use 6.3 version of thaiphoon burner.. i tried following the instruction to change the spd timing.. but unfortunately my memory stick is read-only.. i tried to write n after reboot.. i re-read the timing but it doesn't change.. so, i go for searching on the web.. n find that hynix is read only.. so, nothing i can do about it unless changing the ram stick?
is it ok to use only ram stick on my notebook? because i use 3dmark06 i get a score 8346 (post processing disabled) on 194.. n if i use 2ram stick i could only go to 185.. n my score on 3dmark06 is 8034.. is there any performance decrease if i use 1ram stick.. if so.. what brand and spec of ram you all suggest for me to buy?
sorry for bad english.. thanx for reading.. need help.. -
Will elaborate more tomorrow but with 2GB I can get 197 and performance is great in most games, in the witcher 2 I get huge drops in fps with only 2gb. 4gb the game runs spot on.
i got my new 2nd stick today via RMA through dell and have been playing before i went out. i have a new best of 8896 (post processing on as its the fair and accurate way to do it and still got more O|C headroom to go) but have some observations to make with regards to set PLL and RAM timings.
I'll explain further tomorrow after more testing and less alcohol.
A few observations about SETPLL.
Ive been playing with this over the weekend and Ive noticed a few things. With 2GB and 1 stick I can get 197BLK fully stable. With 2x 2GB I can only get 191BLK. So if you are purchasing new RAM it may be worth leaving one module blank and using just one 4GB stick.
When you have set your timings with Thiaphoon, if I then reboot and try and set a high BLK the PC will crash. I know 191BLK is stable but if I tweek or change my timings and try and jump from 166 to 191 the PC will freeze. So first boot after you change your timings work your way up. What ive done is created a folder on the desktop with lots of different BLK speeds short cutted (You get these off the screen shot on the first page). I.e. 133, 172, 180, 188, 191, 194
So ill go from 166 (Bios OC) to 172, then to 180, 188 and finally 191. This works and the PC is stable. I can then reboot and the 191BLK will work first time. I cant explain why this happens? You may find you can actually OC further than you think.
Another strange thing ive noticed is you cant jump from 191 to 133 without it crashing. If im leaving the laptop downloading ill usually downclock to save power and heat. There are two options to do this. Shut the lid thus putting the laptop to sleep. When the laptop wakes itll be set back to the bios setting (166 in my case). You can now jump down to 133 from there. The other long winded process is jumping from 191 to 180 to 170 to 133 using set PLL. -
I've tried 180MHz and passed intelburntest but at gaming I would encounter BSOD, so if I do RAM SPD mod will it increase stability @ 180 MHz?
-
I was fine to game 194BLK with one stick of RAM. Now i've got both sticks in @ 4GB it wont play games unless I drop it down to 188 and this is with the SPD mod. I'm tempted to get a single 4GB stick and see if I can push it back up to 194BLK and sell the x2 2GB sticks.
Mine was not stable at 180BLK pre SPD mod so your RAM sounds like its pretty good. I should imagine you'll get decent results changing your timings. -
When doing step 4,
4. Now, type in “setpll m11xr2” to query the available clockspeeds.
I get the following error
"setPLL: No .lut for PLL 'm11xr2'. Please create one."
Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong? -
The name of the .lut file has changed since Davy wrote the guide. Type in Alienware-m11xr2 and it should work.
-
'setpll Alienware-m11xr2' worked. You are my hero.
-
Yeah that could do with an update
-
Yeah well unfortunately I am unstable at 170 anyway
-
I know this forum is especially tailored for Alienware MX11 laptops but I want to know if this program is also compatible with 2nd generation of Intel I7/I5 processors specifically for Asus g74 laptops. If yes , can teach me how to make one? Thanks

Hello! I own an m11x r2 i5 that seems to have trouble with setpll. Now I've followed the instructions on the thread perfectly as far as I know but my computer just black screens and hangs at 180 blk. The 166 overclock works fine with 0 problems and 190 blk or above blue screens but this problem started a few months ago and I'm just stumped.
Suggestions? Please and thank you. -
How come I can't get passed 154 MHz? I used to get 156 MHz with the stock Dell RAM (Hyundai) that came with my system. But I just installed the RAM (check my sig) from Patriot and it's even slightly worst. I also did the tweaks via Thaiphoon Burner (bought it) and nothing. It is currently clocked at 7-7-7-20.

-
What do you recommend? I guess I could still return these.
-
I think the base clock for 2nd gen i-series CPU is locked and even a slight increase in base clockspeed might crash the system.
-
How do you go about getting new MOBOs with them? I am under warrany for another 2 years.
-
I just told them 'Oh my CPU is reaching 90+C, mind if I get a new mobo?' and they sent technician to replace it. lol
and they came without checking my temperature :x -
Hi all,
i know my laptop is way outdated ^_^ *Acer Aspire 4935 T6400 C2D 2.0ghz*. Been Trying to OC it for the past few days. Read alot of forums but couldn't manage it. tried setFSB but nothing works *except maybe for the donate $10*. But a better solution would be setPLL, so i've tried a couple of the pll's in it and nothing seems to work. I went through the net and found out that i have ICS9LPRS387 (without bklf) clock generator. Not sure it's compatible but i've tried using setPLL and it got stuck at:
setPLL: sending#1 BCLK@266=50.67.01, PCIE@100=20.32 to the PLL via rw.
So thinking that it might take awhile. I leave it for the night.. and came back the next morning without any changes. Anyone could help me sort this out?
Thanks -
when you set up auto start for setpll using task scheduler it works fine but it loads the techinferno website automatically.. ofcourse its pointless since i jujst booted and there is no internet connection yet..
so how do i remove or disable this from loading the webpage everytime i boot and setpll is loaded? -
i have a few questions right now im using throtlestop im running my i7 at 2.9 ghz and running 166 in he bios i have gskills ram but doing this can i increase my speeds even further?
-
Does anyone still have SETPLL on his computer ? I can't donwload it anymore.
-
Desperately looking for Setpll. It's completely disappeared off the interwebs. Can someone link to it? or PM me with info? thanks in advance!

SetPLL won't work on windows 8. CPUID completely freezes my laptop, can someone update the files to be used on windows 8?
-
Yeah replaced with the latest version of CPU-Z and I guess I'll just give up lol. Clearly it won't work on Windows 8. Compatibility mode won't work either. -
Just looking for a bit of advice here, only just found this thread.
I'm trying to use this to boost over 166 however i always end up getting this error
sed.exe can't read cpuinfo.txt: no such file or directory
cpu.bat: ERROR - did not get cpu_bclk. Check c:\setpll\cpuzinfo.txt
cpuzinfo.txt is always empty, too.
