restore to USB flash drive you can rip windows 7 to USB flash drives using loaders lite "vlite" do some digging around. i think you need a 4gb or 8gb stick depending if you do a full install or a smaller leaner install

I ended up doing a full install of the non-Dell/AW windows 7. Can't tell you for certain what the differences are between the two other than the size. If you do the verison supplied from dell/aw it's about 5gb so you need an 8gb usb drive, if it's the non-dell version it's about 3.1 gb so a 4gb will do. The non-dell version came in installed at about 4 or 5 gb lighter but still had everything I used, it was about 1.5 gb lighter on the usb drive. You don't have to have a loader like faiz mentioned but you do need to set the usb drive to active/bootable and then just explore the files on the disc on your other computer and copy them straight to the usb drive. If you don't know your way around cmd promt and the cmd promt disk management interface then follow faiz's advice and use a loader.

I got this problem which drives me crazy.... When I want to use DellDatasafe returning it back to the factory settings I get this error when it restarts. Winload.exe is missing or corrupt. I tried like EVERYTHING but really nothing works... Anyone can help me with this?

Ok so I inserted the windows 7 disc (via network) so I can fix the winload.exe I pressed upgrade and it took like 2 hours for windows to finish the job. So I started up windows 7 again and tried DellDatasafe but now I get this message failed to recover because of missing recover partition.

If I create a flash usb with the recovery and use it, will that fix the problem? Cuz the normal system recovery doesnt work will the usb flash works? Even if I still need to create one?

    Yours,
    Kratos

There seems to be a hidden recovery partition built in on the M11x (at least mine does). I first noticed its existence when running the native windows defrag. When you reinstalled Windows, you might have accidentally erased that partition, which is why the Dell utility no longer works.

Don't bother. Just reinstall Windows from a USB thumb drive. All you need is a USB drive that is at least 4GB in size.

And be sure that you can access Dell's support site ( Welcome to Dell Support) to download drivers after you reinstall. You may want to download drivers before you reformat, or be sure that you have access to a computer with internet connectivity. Your M11x will not have any network drivers installed after the reformat, so you cannot use it to directly download drivers.
