..I sold my m11x r1.. It was the first piece of hardware I truly loved and I will miss it..

Farewell r1
-
how much did ya get for it?
-
Why'd ya sell?
-
I sold it because I bought a m14x recently and didn't really have the need for a ultra portable gaming laptop anymore. I got 400 euros for the m11x r1, which is a good price in my opinion considering I paid 900 for it in march 2010.
I will probably sell my m14x as well. The m17x appeals a lot more to me, since I hardly move my laptop. -
That's a fantastic price for a 2 year old system, you did well in that exchange. I too was considering letting go of my R1 but realised there's very little point in upgrading since I only very casually play SWTOR; which runs fine!
-
When I replace my R1 later this spring, I'm passing on my old one to my wife, who likes the light-up keyboard, or my students, who think it's much cooler than sliced bread.
-
But seriously, you're doing the right thing if you don't plan on moving your laptop around much. I've got an M17x which is pretty much fixed in one position and my M11x which isn't in the same place for more than a few hours. They perform completely different tasks and they complement each other extremely well. -
i don't really get why would anyone get m18x or any laptop with screen over 15"... i mean its a laptop, you gotta be able to carry it around atleast in theory...
You can get way better spec. desktop for that price, plus neat thin monitor. Just get a smaller case... everything fits fine for way less and way better specs. -
-
But I agree on the rest, too bad I can't have both laptops.
If I could sit down on my couch with my desktop, take it to bed, put it on the dining table, take it to work, yeah you are absolutely right! But hey, I can't do all that with a desktop. So I get a laptop.
"But for the price of the m17x you can get a nice desktop and a laptop!" Yeah true, but then I still wouldn't be able to play battlefield 3 or skyrim on my couch, in bed, on the dining table and on my work -
You should buy a desktop
really though, I think the m14x is a great computer. I am actually looking at moving up to one soon. I just ordered the new x51, so I will be expanding my game library to fit the new power I have. -
Congrats on the new desktop ejohnson. That thing looks awesome and would actually be a desktop that you could lug around pretty easily in comparison to a normal, full size monster. Great move by Alienware in my opinion!
I saw a M14x in the wild a few weeks ago and to be honest, it didn't seem much bigger than the M11x. And also for the huge jump in performance I think it would make a very worthwhile upgrade. -
I'd be worried about temperatures... All those desktop parts cramped together like that in the X51. They must have had to do backflips getting the ventilation right.
Honestly I'd only even be remotely interested if it were upgradeable. The whole point of a desktop is upgradeabilty. I'd want slots for a video capture card, etc... -
The x51 is upgradable, its all standard gpu and motherboard things.
But I am getting off topic here, so just check out these pictures to see.

Well personally I think the x51 is a bit weird for alienware standards. The looks are nice, but I am kinda dissapointed with the gpu. But for once, they didn't overprice the heck out of it! I would go for the cheapest option. The i3 is fast enough for games and you can always put some more RAM in yourself.
Edit: sorry for the derailing
I had to let it go.. (sad)
