    Last week my hinge started making a slight cracking noise when I closed or opened it. Since then it has gotten more pronounced :eek:

    So it is still under warranty. Do I contact Dell to get a tech to come out and repair it? This is really disappointing as I have owned three Alienware laptops prior to this one and none had any problems what so ever...

    Is there anything I can do in the meantime to prevent it from getting worse and breaking completely?

    I got mine and it failed the paper test.

    Called dell, they sending someone with replacement screen.

    Ya it's covered by warranty. Just call up dell and they should take care of you.

    As for what you can do to help, there really isn't much. You could just stop opening and closing the lid all together, but that wouldn't be very helpful.

    Beyond leaving it open there's not much you can do to keep it from getting worse. Batboy is probably going to close this thread in favor of the mega-hinge thread...
