I have until 12/03 to buy an extended warranty on my R2. Should I?

    Hey all,

I haven't been around in a while as I've been playing again with desktop rigs.

But I still really love my R2 on the occasion I have need to use it. I've been working from home a lot so its been sitting. I still keep its drivers updated and test new games on it and am still impressed with its performance. Enough that I'll most likely get the R4 if they can get a worthy display panel in there.

But I know my wife is going to still be using the R2 and taking it on the go where it has more of a chance to get knocked around, etc.

Ironically, I also haven't had to have my hinge replaced yet. I know the extended warranty covers accidental user damage and so for that reason I was really considering it. But I know the value of it is also way down, so I don't know if its worth it.

    I welcome any input.

    Cheers!

Hey THX, glad you still love the R2.

Though you will most likely already know, you're hinges will be replaced whether you have warranty or not. I've never looked into getting extended warranty as I've still got a few years left on mine but if I was going to still be using it after that, I'd probably think pretty hard about getting it. It also depends how much it will cost and how careful your wife would be with it but it may be worth it just for the peace of mind...

That's just my 0.02, let us know how you go.

It may be also worth for another reason: you may get an R3 replacement in case it fails :)

    Yup ^

The R2 is as of this month, discontinued. Try as you may, you can not order one from Dell. So in the event that something does happen to it, there's a good chance they'll replace it with an R3.

It's only $49 per year, i'd do it just for that added piece of mind. That's basically full cover for your laptop, no matter what happens to it, for the cost of a new RAM kit.

Is it really only $49 a year?! That is actually a really good price. I totally think that it's worth it now!

Well when i purchased my M11x R3, the 1st year of Complete Care was $49. 2nd year was $280+, 3rd year was $350+, and 4th year was $480+.

I'm not sure if that's how the price stays, but i thought that 1 year was $49 since that's what i paid. Unless that was simply the price for "upgrading" from the limited warranty?

Worth finding out first, if it's too expensive then it would be cheaper just to be careful and make sure it doesn't get damaged lol.
