I tried some this Turtle Wax Scratch and Swirl remover that was on sale at Walmart for $1.85 just to see what would happen, and I'm pretty sure the lid is a tad bit more reflective now (albeit and fingerprints are more noticeable). What do you guys think? I neglected to take before and after photos, so I could be totally wrong.

Nicely done! I do miss the more reflective look of my R1 over my new R3, and you did a fantastic job really bringing that reflective look to a shine.

Thanks man! I love how it looks now, the biggest problem I've been having are the dang fingerprints, lol.

Which is why glossy computer/gadget surfaces need to die a fiery death.

Looks amazing! I have been debating this "mod" for awhile now, never wanted to do it till I either saw what it looks like knew they had the hinges fixed... now both items have been met, so I guess I will go out to the garage and get some polishing compound.

Thanks again dude, it's working great!

It's definitely worth it in the end, I picked up a microfiber and did it, but for those who have a pair of soft cotton socks, invert those it works the same pretty much. If you try it, post pics!

It would look like Chrome ;).

    And vigorous rubbing.

    sweet job OP! :)

ill try it out. i have some awesome 3M stuff i use (my secret weapon from back in my car detailing days).

i actually want to use 2000 git on mine to get a matte look... but im done taking my M11x apart for now. i was thinking tho... if the 2000 grit sand job doesn't work out, i was going to paint it white and go for a "Portal look" setting the light to orange and blue would look soooooo awesome!

Thanks man! I would love to see the Portal look! It would be insane. You could try having a thin black line going down from the alien's chin on the lid and it would look like a turret.
