My M11x suddenly shuts down as if it ran out of charge. I don't know whats the reason behind that, but it gets EXTREMELY hot and suddenly shuts down, so I think its a overheating issue.
I don't know if this would help, but the laptop only overheats when I game, even keeping it open with out any usage will get it really hot. I didn't used to have this problem, When I play high end games it burns my leg and the game starts to get lower frames.
When I got my M11x, me and my friends bought 6 , and I am the ONLY one experiencing this problem. I love this laptop, I would really appreciate if anyone can help me.
Thank you for reading,

Edit :
Here are my temps
after 15 mins of just keeping it open
![]()
after 30 mins of playing Darksiders ( about 10 more mins to over heat )
![]()
and I get a average of 15 fps on TF2 and it gets worse and worse till it over heats and my laptop stops working. Are those temperature figures normal ?

Sounds like overheating to me. R1 or R2? Are you overclocking the CPU and/or GPU? The lower frames sounds like it's throttling to compensate for the heat.
-
Use speedfan/throttlestop and prime95 to monitor your stress temps.
-
speedfan always report the temperature 20C lower than throttlestop..... don't know which one is the accurate one geez~~
-
ThrottleStop, and by extension RealTemp (both from uncleWebb) are both accurate.
-
I use CPUID Hardware Monitor Pro, tells me all my temps with the ability to record temps for as long as you like so you can go back and check after your done gaming how hot or cool your laptop stays.
-
Hey dude I'm with the same problem....but just checking for temperatures is not going to resolve the problem. Like in the other tread more people are having the same experience.....I have this since the start of the month. Any REAL help for this issue that many people is having? The only way I resolved this problem temporally is having the laptop with a space on the fan to get some air, but this wasn't a problem before.

DivineAura: Many programs are using the wrong TJMax value when determining your core temperature. SpeedFan is one such program. Here is the formula that all software is using.
Reported Temperature = TJMax - Digital Thermal Sensor reading
All software is reading temperature data from the same digital sensors. The problem is that if software uses the wrong TJMax value for your CPU, it will report the wrong core temperature.
If you have an SU7300, you can go to the Intel website and look up the correct TJMax. It's 105C.
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=42791&code=su7300
Now you can open up the ThrottleStop.INI configuration file and make sure it is using the correct value. I'm pretty sure it is.
HWMonitor also has this same problem. It seems to use a default value of 100 which is wrong for the majority of Core 2 mobile CPUs. Most of them are 105. To fix HWMonitor you need to edit the hwmonitorw.ini config file and change this line.
CPU_0_TJMAX=105.0
I have no idea why SpeedFan is so out to lunch. There's no reason for it when the correct value that software should be using is easily available from Intel.
ThrottleStop also has a temperature logging feature. Very handy when testing. -
ok my recomendation is call Dell. it sounds like a faulty graphics card. that is what was happening to me, so they gave me a new one

Stop laying your laptop on a bed or a constricting surface.

ok so here are my temps
after 15 mins of just keeping it open
after 30 mins of playing Darksiders ( about 10 more mins to over heat )
and I get a average of 15 fps on TF2 and it gets worse and worse till it over heats and my laptop stops working. Are those temperature figures normal ? -
Here are my max temps after 1 hour of Fallout 3:
I can get around 80-84°C with Dirt 2 (more than 1 hour) I´m in a plain desk, with no A/C, with 30°C outside -
So what should I do ?
I'm keeping it on a normal desk and the temp out side is below 20c
If i keep my laptop on bed or on the carpet it would over heat in minutes! Should I contact Dell ? Will they replace it for me ? Cause I'm really annoyed with it, I used it for less than 3 months and I still didn't start using it heavily. -
Call Alienware support.
-
wow, those temps are super high
definitely call the support and get it fixed if there's something wrong
I used to get around 60-65 when playing games (cod4, black ops, wow) and 50 when idle
what I did was I made little stands that I put on the back of the laptop so that it has more room between the fan vent and my desk, and since then, my cpu is at 47-50 when playing games (never passes 50, even after 3+ hours of nonstop play) and ~40 when idle (will go up to 45 before the fan starts spinning and goes back to 40). -
Is it me or does dell support REALLY sucks??
I tried to log in and I'm 100% sure that my password is right and it kept telling me its wrong.
So I decided to change the password, and guess what? IT STILL TELLS ME PASSWORD IS WRONG.
This doesn't sound good.. I hope calling dell support wont screw me, especially that I don't live in America, and it costs a lot.. -
Call support immediately. Those temps are far and away higher than what you should see on an R2, overclock or not - and you're not.

Call Alienware support.
I think my laptop is overheating
