So I got the Windows 8 release preview on my Alienware m11x R1, and now it's not recognizing my Nvidia card, my resolution is stuck at 1024x768 rather than being able to go to 1366x768, and I can no longer run my games at a good FPS(Both of which are probably sub problems of the video card not working)

I've tried redownloading my drivers, but it isn't working. Even Nvidia's upgrade for Windows 8 wasn't working.

When I look at Device Manager it says "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"

    What can I do?

    Specs:
    Alienware M11x R1
    4 gigs of RAM
    Nvidia GeForce GT 355m

Make sure you have installed the HD integrated graphics driver first or the Nvidia installation will not work. Go to the microsoft website for the latest version. Then install the latest Nvidia driver making sure you select Window 8 Preview on the listing.

Yiddo - that won't work because the R1 isn't optimus.
To the OP - you have two options:
    1. Use Dell's driver for Windows 7
    or
    2. Go into the BIOS (F2 on startup) disable the integrated graphics and then save and exit then when you boot up just install the nVidia driver as normal.
