Recently I have seen several things on this and other threads (such as pinmods) to boost the CPU past the 1.6Ghz that dell has limited it to. I was wondering if anyone has had any success? And if so, mind posting a guide on how to do so? It'd be a nice little tweak for this already powerful laptop.

    Thanks

I did a successful pinmod, following this thread. I just need to run some benchmarks.

Interesting! Hmm. Being a complete noob with this sort of thing I'll try to find a guide on how its done. Any tips?

Look for another component that the TME pin (14) is connected to- it's so small that I nearly connected pin 13 to ground as well. Or you could try the easy way- use a very small screwdriver and cut the pin.

Is it really safe to cut the pin? No side effects?

So far, no side effects on my Aspire One, it's running fine at 1.8Ghz. Like soldering, you still need precision- cut more then one pin and you're in trouble. Unlike soldering, I doubt it's reversible- the pin's tiny. So it's easier and riskier.
