Being a new owner of a M11x I have spent way too many hours sifting through countless threads trying to find information and new drivers for my new laptop. When a new member here asks for information because it's a pain to find, they usually get flamed. So here is all of the basic (and some advanced) information for all of the new owners out there as well as prospective buyers.

Prospective Buyers! What you need to know.

First thing that comes to mind is the difference between the M11xR1 and the M11xR2 -

The R1: Has the Core 2 Duo processors, SU4100 (refurbished only), and SU7300. It has a physical button to turn your graphics card on and off ( does not use Optimus!), it includes a VGA port, and it comes in a shiny case instead of a matte case.

The R2: Has the Intel i series processors, i3(Europe only), i5, and i7. It uses Optimus technology instead of a physical switch for your graphics card, does not include a VGA port, and it has a "Soft touch" matte case instead of a shiny one.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whew, that is all I can think of for the moment. Other people please feel free to post other helpful threads, or correct any I have posted. I'm sure I missed a ton. I'll check back here and try to keep it as updated as I can.

I claim absolutely no ownership for any of these, I am simply compiling them in one thread for our newest community members. Hopefully this saves people some time! A sticky on something like this would be awesome Batboy.

    For m11xR2

    For m11xR1,

Boot into BIOS (start up and then hammer the F2 key until you get to the bios options menu)

    Advanced tab

    "enable" overclock

    Save and exit

    Done!

I take it that it's next to impossible to get anything stickied around here.

I wonder if it would get stickied if I removed the whole warning about the hinge issue...

While the i3 is heaps and bounds cheaper, it does have a major performance hit against it: no Turbo Boost. With ThrottleStop Turbo Boost becomes a massive aid to OCing, (well, you could just let turbo be fast without OCing, too).

OK well i just bought this laptop off a coworker for 400 bucks. It has NO VGA port, has 2 U7300 Processors @ 1.3 Ghz (1.73), and no physical "change the graphix chip on/off button" thingie

SO do I have an R2 or R1?
