I have the R2 M11x and I'm new to the linux thing, just wanted to try it out and get used to it...I'm liking it a lot so far but I was able to get all the window animations and effects running on a VM and when i dual booted ubuntu 10.10 i enable the effects but none of them actually work. Now im thinking this is due to the nvidia driver not being installed, i assumed its using the discrete graphics because when i first installed ubuntu, i went to the additional drivers thing to install drivers for my wifi card and then i saw the discrete graphics drivers there..so i installed it...on reboot, there was nothing but a blank screen so i had to go into recovery mode to uninstall them. I've done a lot of research but all that comes up is people wanting to switch between IGP and Discrete graphics..i really don't care which it uses, even if it depletes battery life a bit more..I just want all the animations to be enabled and to run smoothly, which i honestly think the integrated graphics is fully capable of. Please guys any help would be appreciated..thanks in advance.

Last I heard there were no drivers for linux, but they are in the making from a third party.

I have a m11x r2 with linux. To get past the optimus, you have to use a hacked version of acpi_call.

When you use linux, you'll realize that graphical animations are a detriment to work. Anyways, the intel card is perfectly capable of using compiz effects.
