I already order the 6200 to replace my DW1520 from Newegg I was just wondering if anyone has found the specs for how many volts the 6200 uses? I found the DW1520 to use 3.3V. On their Intel page: here it doesn't state it like it does right out in the open for the Dell 1520 on this page here anyone with this card mind pointing out how it does? as it is the wireless takes a beating on the battery. Just wondering if this would improve or reduce the battery life. I just need a better signal either way from my room being that I have only 1 bar with the 1520.

    1) All internal WiFi cards will use 3.3V, and draw roughly the same power. It is part of the specifications of miniPCI slot, and the specifications of 802.11 a/b/g/n. You won't really save any battery life going from one WiFi card to another.

    2) If you want to get a better WiFi signal, then you need to start figuring out why your signal is poor to begin with. Are there walls / doors between your laptop and the WiFi router? Is there interference from cordless telephones or microwaves? In most cases, you can improve the situation by either moving your WiFi router. Or, you can get an external USB WiFi adapter that either has an attachable antenna, or can be repositioned better with a USB extension cable. Getting a different internal WiFi card won't help, because your WiFi antenna isn't changing.

    3) If you want to improve battery life, start looking at other areas that drain battery. Use BatteryBar to figure out how much power your laptop is draining, and find ways to lower it. Disable AlienFX on battery. Disable all unneeded startup programs and services through msconfig. Reduce screen brightness. You won't get any noticeable battery life savings from using one brand of WiFi card over another.

My battery life is as advertised 2-3hours when gaming. I was not expecting to see a noticeable one. I just wondered out of curiosity.

Devu... Kent is right, if your looking to gain battery life by switching wifi cards, you're not going to see a difference.

I have an intel 6200 wifi card and I love it. I have noticed a difference in range not just in my house, but at school also.

I noticed a difference in battery life when I switched from an HDD to an SDD.

Edit: You have an SSHD, so disregard what I said lol

I was not getting one for battery life. I was just wondering if that was an added extra. I guess it will be the same and that's fine. I just wanted an extra bar or two when working from my room. From what kent said I discovered that my desk actually blocks my wick signal and reduces my downloadin rate by up to 12 mbits so I changed the surface its on and now my download speed is faster but its still at the brink of one bar. Its my dads network so I have no permission to change the location of the router. So the 6200 is the next best thing when I need to do work at my desk.

If that is the problem, then get a USB WiFi adapter and a USB extension cord. Position the WiFi adapter in a location in your room that has a better connection to the router, so that it isn't blocked by walls, doors, furniture, etc.
