Actually, a fix from Alienware won't help the specific problem described by hikarate:
"After leaving my laptop on for a while and closing the lid, when I opened it again the screen was black and I could hear the fan and the hard drive, but it wouldn't turn on."

It is not uncommon for that to happen with laptops, even if they are non-Alienware laptops. It could happen because the computer wouldn't sleep/hibernate properly, or because the computer overheated and locked up (since computers are designed with the expectation that heat can escape straight up through the keyboard when opened. Closing the lid raises the temps of the laptop).

This may be related to a number of black screen bugs appearing in Intel drivers lately.

    See:
X4500 Graphics: Monitor dead after system resumes from sleep
Screen garbled/tearing in Windows 7 when waking from Sleep (GMA4500)
    Black screen after installing 8.15.10.2086
Intel HD Graphics With Core i3 processor - Driver incompatibility (2082-2086-2104) Results black/freeze screen!

Yes I know most of these are with the X4500 which is not the Intel GMA HD that the R2 has but some with Intel HD are reporting the same issues.

Suggestion: If you are not using Intel 2162 drivers try them.

Back to the issue at hand. If someone can give me a registry export of what I posted here, I may be able to fix this for y'all.

True but that issue isn't the focus of this thread. The screen dimming issue is indeed related to Alien Fusion and must be fixed by Alienware.

Well, you were talking about the issue with the screen going black, and then you said "The point is, we need a fix from Alienware."

I misunderstood to what you were referring to when you said that a "fix" was needed.

Was the dimming ever fixed with Alienware Fusion left enabled?

I've been telling everyone about this from the beginning and even posted YouTube videos. If you close the laptop while it is entering sleep BEFORE it finishes entering sleep, it will often hard-lock.
