    Intel Ultimate-N 6300
    GENUINE INTEL Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 633ANHMW Wifi on eBay.ca (item 220683279292 end time 13-Nov-10 23:42:59 EST)
    Dell 5530 WWAN card
NEW F3507g 3G GPS HSPA Mobile Broadband Modem Dell 5530 on eBay.ca (item 180567096924 end time 26-Oct-10 21:17:41 EDT)

From my understanding and research, both cards are compatible with the alienware m11x, and since my notebooks screen was replaced with one that has an antenna I'm planning to install the 5530. But, before I did I was wondering if anyone could confirm that the 5530 and 6300 indeed work, I just want to be extra sure that they would work before spending 100 for nothing.

Second was that the WIFI card within the m11x is a 2x2 and the 6300 is a 3x3, if anyone does indeed have a 6300 how did you configure it? How did you install the extra cable? From what I've read you need to configure it to use its full bandwith, but have no idea how I should go with this.

If the 6300 wasn't going to work I was going to go with the 6200's 2x2, since ANYTHING could be better then the wifi within the m11x.

    6200 is fine.

6300 is 3x3, and 2x2 (wifi-N) and 1x1 (wifi a/b/g) compatible. just install the cables to the outer two links, first, then the middle one.
If no middle one, then 2x2 operation mode only.

I agree, my sister's intel 5100 desecrates my junk dell adaptor in both of my m11x units.

If you get the 5530, the software installation package from Dell will not work without modifying the MSI file to bypass the authentication check.

You will get this error from running the setup:

You will get this error from running the msi:

You have to use ORCA from the Windows Installer SDK and disable the Authentication script and then it will install the drivers.

Is the gap between the 5520 and 5530 huge? Or should I just get the 5520 to save myself the trouble? Or has anyone installed a WWAN card from a different company and has installed it?

I would also like to purchase a 5530 for my M11x that just had a screen replacement with all the antennas.

Can you expand on how to install the 5530 drivers, or if we should just go with the 5520?

I've got the 3507g Ericsson, bought it on impulse because the word 5530 dell was written on it:/ Anyhow the point is everythings easy to install but its no use unless you can get access to A04 BIOS.

I have a question and didn't want to star a new thread. I'm having trouble with the wireless range of the m11 - where I work I see a lot of open wireless networks with really weak signal strength and sometimes I can connect but most of the times it fails. Is the situation going to improve if I replace the wireless card or do I need a stronger antenna?

the 6200, should improve your range, I also saw a thread where you could move the antenna to the bottom of your keyboard for longer range, but that requires alot of work.

Don't know about the warranty but yes the cards easily replaceable. If you need help with it I'll post a video on how-to. But pretty easy.

Yes, you can replace it. The only time the warranty is killed is if you cause damage to the system during the replacement of parts/opening it. Example: you strip out a screw when replacing the bottom cover after installing your wireless card. Support will not cover this as you opted to not have support do the work.

If you are going to open it up, take a look at:

i'm having trouble, got the 5530 in the M11x and none of the wireless managers I install can pick up the card.

Drivers seem to install fine from dell_5530_gps.zip but all wireless managers give me No Mobile Broadband Modem.

Any advice how to get this card working on m11x?

What drivers do you guys use with the intel 6200/6300? I'm wondering since my 6200 seems to perform worse that hte original dell unit.

I tried the 6200, and the 6300 on my M11X R1, both with the latest Intel Drivers. I completely removed the dell wifi drivers too. Both cards caused hard lockups after a short period of use. I do not know of any fix for this.
