Hey guys, so my Intel X25-M 120 gb SSD finally arrived today. Been reading on the forum that I could attach the SSD to another computer and update the firmware prior to installing it in my M11x.
But considering how new it is, do I really have to take this step?
If so, can someone who has this drive and has done it before give me any pointers?

You won't know what firmware your drive ships with, because you don't know how long it has been sitting on a warehouse shelf somewhere.
In your specific case, I wouldn't worry about it. Just pop the drive in and use it as-is. -
thanks for the advice - rep

the 120GB version was released about a month ago so the firmware on it should be the latest. I have the same drive and its been fine with no issues. I wouldn't worry about it.
-
Exactly. The 120GB is new. It supports TRIM out of the box and has no known performance issues.
-
Yep, running the same SSD, not one problem.
-
thanks all

WHat is the correct driver to use on the m11X to ensure that the Trim is working?
-
Just install it in AHCI mode in the bios and you're all set. Nothing special needed.
-
I recommend downloading the Intel rapid storage technology (Intel RST) drivers though.
-
what's the benefit of installing the intel rapid storage tech drivers? i read in another ssd optimization guide that its useless?
-
Go ask over at the NBR SSD thread. If you filter through all 8000+ posts, you will see that Intel RST is recommended over the default Microsoft one for overall better performance.
-
My Windows Experience Index for the drive went from 5.9 to 7.7 with the Intel Rapid Storage stuff.
-
Odd, I didn't even install anything and had 7.6...though who really cares about the WEI.
