Looking at getting a SSD for my M11x R2 and these two caught my eye.

    Intel X25-M 120GB SSD
    and the
    OCZ Vertex 2 120GB SSD

I don't know much about SSD's but it looks like the OCZ is a little better, but i don't really know.

Thanks for any input you can provide.

they both will be gimped because the intel chipsets screw up the transfer speeds somehow, read it in another thread. So you will get basically the same performance so whatever is the cheaper per gb ratio take that

There's probably little practical difference. Buy what you like.

The Vertex 2 and X25-M are 2 of the best SSDs out there. I went with the Intel since they have been at it longer plus it was cheaper when I purchased it :) Either way you go you will not be disappointed.

    Good Luck

Not sure what the OCZ warranty is, but I recently RMAed a 40GB Intel X25-V SSD. I use it as my dedicated benchmarking drive, and I bought it off a forum member. When I called they gave me absolutely no hassle, and sent me out a new one since my last one died. Great services. Honestly either are great drives.

In terms of use, little difference. I got the OCZ-Vertex 2 and have been pleased with the support I received in their forums when I had questions, the Intel guys would have to speak up about their experiences there to compare though.

You'd be happy with either one. From a performance perspective, you would not be able to tell the difference between either drive in real-world usage. Both companies offer excellent support and RMA for defective products, and both SSD's are very highly regarded among hardware enthusiasts.

What it will really come down to is size and cost. Wait until one of the two drives has some kind of discount or rebate, and then jump on that.

actually the next generation ssd's will be out soon. The are made on 25nm and have much cheaper costs. The 160GB Gen 3 intel ssd will only cost slightly more then the current cost of the 80GB one

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/4086/microns-realssd-c400-uses-25nm-nand-at-161gb-offers-415mbs-reads

Take that into consideration. It will be out in 3 weeks not very long wait.

"The move to 25nm NAND gives us one major improvement: cost. The 512GB C400 will be priced at $825 in 1,000 unit quantities - that works out to be $1.611 per GB. The 256GB drive will go for $425, the 128GB at $210 and the 64GB somewhere above $100. As 25nm production ramps up I wouldn’t be too surprised to see SSD prices drop down to the magical $1/GB price point.

Price isn’t the only benefit of the C400, performance should be much improved as well. Micron is claiming sequential read speeds of 415MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 260MB/s (256/512GB drives). The 128GB drive is good for up to 175MB/s sequential writes. Random write performance is unknown at this point but I heard Micron mention something around 50,000 4KB random write IOPS."

We are talking only 210 dollars for 128GB drive. But also much higher speeds. The 128GB drive has 175MB/sec writes and will most likely have atleast 300MB/sec reads which will max out SATA II speeds for the read. You should get this drive in 3 weeks because.

    A. It costs 20 dollars less
    B. It has 8 more GB of space
    C. It has much faster read and write speeds and more iops
    D. It is much more future proof allowing SATA II and SATA III interfaces
    E. It uses the 25nm manufacturing process which will allow it to consume less energy and run cooler

have a 60Gb vertex2 in my desktop and all my programs load up in less than 1 sec. including FO3. loading a save file in FO3 takes about 2-5sec.
