I'm planning on getting the M11X instead of the M17X-R3 because of the sandy bridge issue and my order was cancelled.
I know the M11x is not a replacement for the M17X, however i've decided that it'll be useful for playing games on the go.
I'm planning on getting it fully kitted out, but is there any point in getting the M11x at the moment?
M11x owners, what do you think of the laptop? Can it play games very well?
Please just try and sell it to me![]()
Thank you!

Yea it can play games, i love it, its played everything i threw at it yet. It struggles with bfbc2 because of my cpu i have the R1. But if you get the R2 and Overclock it you'd be set. It can't max games but it plays them really well, i had an m17x and i love this thing way more.
-
There are rumors of the R3 M11X coming out, not sure when. It depends on what games you will probably be playing.
-
It's not worth it if your not on the go. If your a student or travel a lot than it is worth it. I'm not sure what you meant by "kitted out" but I'm assuming you mean the core i7 and if so, good choice. Although it loses some battery life compared to the core2duo (R1) it gives you a much better performance gain. Look into Throttlestop (TS) and do your research on Nvidia Optimus. If your looking for a portable gaming laptop, this is the best choice especially since Alienware has a promotion and coupon that lowers the price down quite a bit. They're are "rumors" as of now with the R3 but for my needs, the R1/R2 will do especially since I'm not a hardcore gamer and don't multitask much.
-
Thanks for the input guys,
Yes I meant i7. ive also added the SSD to it which should be good hopefully.
I'm a student, so yes, i'm on the go quite a bit.
Apparently the 335m graphics card sucks. Am i wrong in saying that? as it's not a Direct X 11 graphics card, therefore, it won't be able to play some top graphically amazing games, like dirt, etc. -
you'd still be waiting if you were going for the R3!
-
The GT 335M is nothing like anything else in this form factor, its not a terrible card but if you are looking for something under 13 inches its unrivaled.
-
And I don't think i'm going to wait for the m11x r-3. I've probably wasted 2 or 3 years waiting for laptops and don't plan on waiting anymore!
Hopefully i'll enjoy the M11x though. -
The Brand New R1 @ $550 is still worth getting, only suckers these days will get the r2 over $1,200 (new of course)
-
-
Yea the prices on the R2's are insane, 1200 for an 11 in laptop, you might as well get a m15x.
-
The R1 is the best bang for the buck.. imo.. Manual Graphic switching and have money left over for another computer depending on what 17X you were looking at you may be able to get both if you give up a few goodies on the 17x..
-
i'll sell you mine for $900
lol (ill give you all mai gaems 2)
-
Just pick up a refurb R2. You'll save hundreds of dollars if you use coupons and you won't be able to tell the difference between the refurb and new. I picked up an immaculate refurb i7 w/ 8g ram for $850 or so. Then when the M11x R3 comes out, you can sell it for a good chunk of change and buy the R3. That's what I'm doing anyways.

Sorry to bring this thread back. i noticed on the m17x r3 that u've made a decision, but i just wanted to stress that are u absolutely sure? it just feels kind of like a stretch to go from that laptop to this one.
Kinda like getting ur 50 inch 1080p hdtv cancelled so u decided to go with a 20 inch 720p hdtv instead.
Gotta stress that the m11x is great for portability, and it runs a lot of games well, but when push comes to shove, there are a lot of games you will decide to turn the settings to medium just to get better fps. Also even with the i7 um that i have, the cpu will throttle if u do anything to intensive, it just cant keep up with real quad core technology.
I wouldn't say that going with the cheaper models are better or worse, i myself upgraded a lot of things and paid a good deal of cash to do so. just be aware that this is a totally different category than the 17x, and if u were looking for something that runs similar it won't. -
I feel your pain here bro. I was set on getting a nice 15 inch SB clevo with the 6970 but then -intel farts!
I wanted to get something easy to lug around and still work and play some. 549 for me (including tax/recycling fee) was a good deal for this to tide me over.
My 9-year-old daughter would love the small form factor so I can pass this along to her.
When the r3 does come out- I'll get that for sure if it does have great features and sell my dv6t.
This saves me quite a bit of money and still indulge my computer addiction without breaking the bank.
It all boils down to do you have money to burn? Do you need it now?
You can sell the r2 later if the r3 comes out but you will probably lose 20-30% value in the first year alone.
But with your specs - this should still be able to run the latest games- not on high detail though. You should post the specs of the rig you ordered.
Have fun with it. -
I basically got the highest specs possible, including the SSD.
Yeah I know ots not a replacement, but I've purchased 3 alienware optx aw2310 monitors as well because I didn't get the m17x. I'll use the monitors on my desktop and I've decided that I'm going to totally beef up my desktop.
I'm going to get the i7 2600 processor, 2 radeon 6990's in xfire, 12gb of g.skill 2200MHZ RAM instead of the m17x.
Hopefully it'll be worth it and I'll be happy with my decision -
thats the way i roll.
hardcore desktop and more than capable portable laptop.
the M11x is perfect for this, being there is only a few titles that most may consider unplayable on the M11x. -
So, the R1 is still ok for gaming? Just OC the cpu and call it good? I was told the i5 and i7 are not very good because they are the "um" models?
Are there any good coupons on these right now? I seem to only be able to find the expired refurbished one and if I had one I would pull the trigger. -
I assume you mean ULV? Yes, the alienware m11x R2 has the ultra-low-voltage core i5/7 processors which just means that they scale down when not needed to save your battery.
and yes, the M11x is an underdog laptop....and no, it can't compete with a quad core desktop...*however* it has been able to run every game I've thrown at it at medium/high settings and still puts out gorgeous visuals. Even if I had the money for an M17x, I'd have taken the M11x... I'm working and going to school, I need portability. Just like everything in life, it's a tradeoff.
When I bought the M11x R2 people warned me the low voltage processor would have trouble with gaming, but like I said, I've yet to run into an issue. Games like Bad Company 2 run best at medium settings (High results in 20 fps gameplay, which isn't smooth enough for me) and Starcraft II runs very decently at medium settings. It'll go even higher too, depending on how hard you wanna push your laptop.
Yes there are some games you're gonna have to tweak so they run decently, I knew that going in. Let's put it this way: this laptop consistantly amazes me at what it can do. I love this thing, despite all its little driver quirks and optimus trouble. It's a very tough little laptop and for a mobile gamer, it gets the job done well. -
bah! dell is still in the build phase
i wonder how long it takes for them to build a complete m11x? -
-
ok. lemme just clarify that i wasnt bashing the m11x because i hate it or that i dont think it runs well.
I love my little lappy and its been well worth the money i spent, and i didnt go for an old model or a refurbished one, i spent like 1400 bucks for this R2 and i dont regret it at all. But still, there are some unrealistic ideas about the R2 for some of our potential buyers. I was concerned because javilionair decided on a m11x as an alternative to a 17x.
Then again, he already has a 17x so a 11x would be a perfect portable compliment to it. Thats what i want to eventually do, have a 17xR3 for home and my 11x for school. (thats what his sig says anyways, that he has an r2.) -

-
If you haven't had a chance to game on an M11x yet you will be pleasantly surprised by it, they do quite well most of the time. Having both an R1 and R2 I can say either will do the job, but the R2 is a bit more well rounded due to the hyperthreading it gives you, allowing it to tackle more CPU-intensive games. I actually use my M11x-R2 and R2 about as much as I do my M17x-R2, if not more so because it is so darn handy to use.

Gentlemen, there is already a thread devoted to order status
