Hi
I'm considering getting a M11X R3, but would like to know if the CPU can be upgraded as with the M17x?
Thanks.

I think its soldered to the motherboard like the r1/r2 models.

It is yes (just got mine today). However, that doesn't mean it can't be removed. I should think (and this is pure speculation so when your machine erupts in a ball of fire it's not my fault) that as long as you stick within the same ultra mobile family of Sandybridge processors, you'll be just fine. For example, you're not going to be able to stick a desktop core i7 in there, that's even bigger than the case height itself when you attach the fan.
As always with these things though, you're playing a risky game. If you do get it and upgrade the processor then have something bad happen, like your sound card break, drive fail etc etc, there's next to zero chance Dell are going to be willing to give you any kind of help at all. -
no you cannot since it has BGA sockets which means it is soldered to the mobo, same for the gpu

Oh, OK.
HA-ha, yes I suppose that would work...
But I'm definitely not going to de-solder a surface mount chip and then resolder a new one (My hand are to shaky for that
).
So its best to get the CPU you want from the beginning.
Thanks every one for your replies and info. -
i doubt you would be able to even desolder it, the whole board is oven baked and all the pins solder that way, Making it nigh impossible unless you brute forced it off.
Is the CPU upgradable on the M11x R3
