In terms of bang for the buck, is the M11X currently the best in its class (gaming netbook under 12 inches)?

I'd like to know what its competition is... if any.

Honestly I think its the best bang for your buck for 13in and under. At least in the US I havent seen anything that games as well or does pretty much anything as well for the price. Granted once you get into the 12in+ class you start running into "full sized" CPUs, but honestly what you buy a sub 14in laptop for the m11x does just as fast. The tasks that I bought my m11x for go just as fast as my SXPS with a full quad core and newer faster HDD. Sure doing a CPU intensive number crunching task the SXPS will blow the m11x away, but who buys an ultra portable for that task?

There is nothing that competes with the m11x in this form factor. Fact. The closest is the Sony Vaio Z, but it costs considerably more (about 2-3x more) and has an inferior GPU. To get equivalent performance, you have to step up to 13-14" notebooks.

at the current sale price for the R1 its not even a question. the R2 is a bit more but i would still consider it to be the best bang for the buck.

imo the ViaoZ is a very nice laptop but when you compair it to the M11x its not as good for the price if your a gamer.

For the money : size : performance ratio you have to dip into the 14in segment to start beating the m11x r1 and r2. By then your into the full sized segment and thats like comparing apples and oranges. Even though the m11x does beat alot of full sized notebooks too. I would say the close second is the MBA 11in.

Apparently? You either payed for it, or you didn't. :) Whoever may have purchased originally might have payed for 3 years, but I'd be shocked if that carries over to you at no cost.

it is still tied to the service tag on dell's website :)

I guess the original owner returned, goes to outlet, and they never deactivated that service plan

can i just ask how did you get the price so low?? with the 20% voucher the outlet offers i can get them down to ~530 but i've not seen <500 since they last did a 1day 499 deal? Did you use two vouchers stacked or something?? please help as i'm just about to buy 4 and the difference will amount to a fair bit to me.

I got it for $609 before the 20% voucher. Was $480 plus a few dollars before tax. Shipping was free.
