A whole lot of threads of popped up with issues about the build quality of the M11x. From the hinges, to overheating to fan issues and more. What do you guys think?

Not that proof by example is logical, my m11x only has the issue of the screen resting on the keyboard.

I haven't had any heat issues. My previous laptop runs at 80-100 degrees C when just browsing, and it's a 12" screen (i.e., bigger design so more room for air flow), so I can't complain about the 40-50 C this one gets browsing.

The most worrying part of it all to me is the inability or lack of concern of Alienware to correct these things. The hinge problem, screen touching keyboard problem, the fan issue with the R1s, lack of OSD when changing volume, and probably other things I've forgotten, all should have been fixed with the R2. That, more than the issues themselves, points to poor quality. Anyone can overlook something or make a mistake; that is pardonable. Not learning from the mistake (and thus fixing it), however, is worthy of criticism. That is what shows me a lack of concern in regard to build quality.

I think overall build quality has been great, very great. But yeah I've experienced some issues but most solid notebook I've owned after a unibody macbook.

the m11x i have seen in stores have the screen just fine, it closes properly and there is no contact with the screen, if the hinges work properly in some then they should be able to work properly in all

if you break it down by the huge sales vs. not so huge quantity of issues (that you can believe it or not find with almost any notebook available, no matter the class/brand), yes.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...gh-enough-quality-alienware-branding-not.html

in just a short time on the market, the M11x is a portable powerhouse the industry is coveting... just google M11x and filter news by date, and start reading the press.

plus if you look here at notebookreview forums, the M11x category has already surpassed traffic of the M15x in its relatively short availability, and quickly catching the M17x (while not meant to fit the same market segment of either) - without digressing into the same thread as posted above, it is proving to be quite the contender! ;)

The only issue I have on my M11x R1 is that sometimes when i press the "Spacebar" button on the right side corner it dont dettect it.
My only concern with it is the Oil Paint on the keyboard, its just anoying to see some black spots at the keyboard but not a big deal. Also i have 1 dead pixel on mine, sometimes is anoying to see it, but sometimes I dont even notice it.
Btw, is a great machine with a lot of power and I know you will love it as I love mine specially if you are going to get the one with i7 ;D

I have no issues with the hinge.. but the keyboard isn't that great on my M11x R1...

Some of the buttons randomly activate and alot of times also get stuck in place when i press on them (especially the L-CTRL) key gets permanently pressed down after I use it. This is extremely noticeable when i'm gaming.

The hinge on mine isnt even by a long shot. If you pick it up and look at the back of it (not the bottom of it) you can see a gap the size of the Grand Canyon where the two halves of the case meet. The whole gap is wide but one end is much wider than another.

I'm worried some chips and capacitors are just going to pour out. lol

i can see a mm gap at the backs of my hinges. i was planning on returning it anyway, when my Asus G60 gets back from repairs.. but now for sure ill return it. just cant trust it. plus, i just can't live with that cpu speed.. my asus has a 2.5ghz cpu before overclocking.
