Hey guy, I have a M11xR1 for about a year now, and I'm very happy with it, mainly, because as I said in another post, I use it work on the go, and it has been really great using him.

However, the much awaited M11xR3 came out, and I'm flirting with it, but a few things first people need to know, Notebooks here, mid to high-end, are really expensive, a M11xR3 would cost me, about R$4000, which is around US$2.500, I'm talking that better version(6gb, better processor, 2gb vga), without SSD(already have one here in this M11xR1), there is also a 30 days waiting for it to arrive, because it comes from the US.

So my point is, is that worth it? Will I see a huge improvement, to justify the cost?

Also, I probally took better care of my M11xR1 than my car, puttin an internal wwan card, 2 internal wwan antennas, vinyl decal on the cover, anti-reflex screen protector, etc...

The m11xR1 will better the m11xR3 in battery life. In performance, the m11xR3 will certainly be faster than the m11xR1 given the CPU and GPU are higher specced.

You are also paying crazy high prices for the R3. There are other options like the 13" LG P330 (GT555M), 13" Acer 3830TG (GT540M) and 14" Lenovo Y470 (GT550M) or smaller systems like a 12" Lenovo X220 or Toshiba R830 + a ~$200 GTX460-768MB eGPU via expresscard. Worth having a browse at the thin-and-lights here.

Otherwise have you considered maximising the performance of your M11xR1 with a CPU and GPU overclock? See http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...rther-overclock-m11x-r1-slg-hardmod-only.html .

    That is insanely expensive.

If you have friends/family in the US that you trust with helping - why not save close to $1000 US and have them ship it to you?

    No.

The Alienware M11x R3 does perform better than the M11x R1. But the performance difference doesn't come close to justifying a $1000 USD or $2500 USD purchase.

I've read that Brazil has exorbitant import duties that jack up the prices of most electronics. Even if someone were to ship him an m11x he would still have to pay to import it.

    That is insane...

At least our government attempts to hide their theft a LITTLE bit better.

Someone mentioned a few months ago when I suggested HIDevolution that Brazil charges 40% in import fees.

That's insane! The government is a total scam artists.

But nonetheless, if you buy a M11X-R3 from HIDevolution, import it from the US, you will pay 1000$ + 40% = 1400$, which is still cheaper than the 2500$ price tag offered by the AW Brazil site.

PS: I love your Bossa Nova music, Brazil! ;)

He wants the upgraded version, so after shipping it will be more like $1900. Still much less.

Just a correction. Import fees in Brazil are about 60% and the fees are charged on the product and shipping.
If you buy something that costs 80$ and the shipping to Brazil is 20$ you gonna pay 60% on 100$. The final price will be 160$. Multiplied by 1.6 to get to brazillian real (our currency) it will be R$ 256.

    I bought the R3 this month and its arriving... I paid R$ 3,300.00 (~ 2,000.00 us$) for the i5 version with 1gb video card and 6gb ram and 500gb.

You should march to the streets and protest this injustice. I'm all for socialism and government programs but this is criminal.

Thanks for all the replies(I`ve read them all), and no, prices will not certainly no drop.

Also, if I legally import it, I'd pay about 60% of federal custom taxes, like Glana said, but there are still the state taxes, which varies for state to state, but the total would be around 88%, and I hope that was only for import.

Brazil is among like 18 countries in the world that charge cascade taxes, basically, out of 12 months in a year, a brazilian works 4 1/2 months to pay taxes, that's based on several a studies.

An Xbox, that you guys buys for US$200, here you can't buy a new one for less than US$650-700 in ebay-like sites.

March the streets? according to studies, in the US, about 55% or the population is involved in some kind of activism(ecology, poverty, etc...), here tha number is around 3%, things are the way they are, you can blame, IMF, US, politicians, or whatever, things are the way they are, because nobody really cares, and the same thiefs, always get elected, people have the rulers they deserve, vote here is mandatory, so people in power love iliterate people's votes.

Anyway, back to the subject, I'm thinking of maybe waiting for my sister to travel to the US, later this year, depending on my financial situation, I might go with her, bestbuy stores, or stores like that, sell Alienware M11x or M14x to buy on the spot, right?

Dell BR Page: Detalhes do notebook Alienware M11x | Dell Brasil

On a side note, is there a site that makes size comparisons between the M11x and M14x, I saw it, and kinda made me interested, not available here in brazil yet, but I think that maybes it's too big.

    EDIT: Answering my own question.
