    base on the fact it's a core 2 duo it definately is a R1.

    I bought my R2 last month and i was only able to choose between i5 / i7 processors...

    The R1, R2 and R3 models are quite confuseing and there is no proper labeling. Also there is a misconception with the processors being the main way to figure out what you have. The one way I found out what model I had was to go to the dell drivers website and type your service tag. Here is what popped up [IMG]

    I didnt think the R3 was out due to a few web pages I read, but I don't think they were correct. Anyways it says I have a R3 and I have a U7300 which I thought was only a R1. I would suggest giving it a try and see what model it says. So I think currently the models are purely decided on their release dates and probably only have a few minor hardware and software changes. I recenlty recieved mine a few weeks ago and this was driveing me crazy trying to figure out the model.

    yeah we did that and that same thing popped up. we got the r3, and he was stoked rolling on the floor of happyness, but there r3's arent even out yet, and he bought it from the previous owner who already had it for a year.

    Honestly, by the time you get the R3, the R4 specs will leak! LOL

    keep the R2. It should last you a a good few years

    Thats a glitch in dells system that they have not fixed yet. You guys have r1s.... all r1 service tags list r3 on dells site. Mine says its a r3, but I know its a r1. Its well documented glitch in some of the speculation threads.

    r1 = core 2 duo
    r2 = i5/i7
    r3 = ???

    That comment was supposed to be on another thread, it got posted here by mistake.

    I think ejohnson has also answered your original question anyway.

    this is not true, the r2 still comes with core 2 duo.check on the AW site.

    wait, but did cosmic black come as an option on the r1? because my friends is black, since i thought they only put red and lunar silver. I do not think it is an r1 after doing some research. also, the ship date on this one is 6 months, so is that an r2 or an r1? can someone please confirm that has one.

    No it doesn't.

    All R1s are Cosmic Black and have a hard-plastic lid. R2s come in black and silver and have a soft-touch lid. ejohnson has it all correct. There is no debate.

    As others have already said, it's definitely an R1, on account it has a C2D.

    The processor is the easiest way to find out what you have.

    Pentium SU4100 or Core 2 Duo SU7300 is the R1. Both are 1.3 ghz.
    First generation i3/i5/i7 is the R2. i3 was never offered in the U.S.
    R3 will have the second generation of the i-series processors. It isn't even out yet, no one has one.

    Also, R2 has the soft touch lid, R1 doesn't.

    On the bottom of your case next to all the information it will either say "M11x" or "M11x R2". Hopefully I don't need to tell you which one is which.

    im ordered my R2 from dell/uk website, and the only processors i could choose from is the i series i spoke to the dell customer advisors and the C2D was designed for the R1.

    When the R2 was released, one of the upgrades was the processor....

    If it is the cosmic black (fingerprint horror) with the core2duo then it is r1.

    R2 is the i core version w/ optimus w/ soft touch black.

    just to reiterate 3demons, if its an R2 you should definately has stealth soft touch black and should have auto switching optimus GPU... i5 or i7 processor....

    people (like me) still buy the R1 because the $400 price difference, and the marginal performance increase isn't worth it...

    Yes. AW is selling both the R1 and R2 simultaneously, and has done so for as long as the R2 has been around (8 months). Though some people are reporting that the R1 is no longer available in certain countries (ie/UK).
