On the left of my touch pad seems kind of hot especially when i play very intensive games like BC2. I think its probably the RAM but i dont know the problem... The temperatures CPU goes to 70C and my GPU goes to 80C. Anybody out there that can help me decrease the heat?

If you still have warranty, call dell. they will come out and replace the motherboard or give you a new laptop.

If your out of warranty, install new thermal paste on the GPU and CPU. This will fix your problem.

Or alternatively, grab some compressed air and clear any dust bunnies out which are probably lurking in your laptop.

So if my motherboard is overheating for 3 times and my left hinge is cracked, am I eligible to get my replacement laptop? :D

Maybe, its up to the person you are talking to on the phone.

Some people have gotten new laptops, while others just get new mother boards.

If you've never blown the computer out with compressed air... now would be a good time to do so, it's amazing the amount of dirt and dust that these things collect!

I got a new motherboard, heat sink and palm rest.

Forgot to mention that my problem was not with dust. The other options are the thermal paste and the motherboard itself since the problem was eliminated with with the replacements.

Will getting a notebook cooler eliminate the problem?

no, but it will be a band aid for the problem.

If your arm gets cut off, you dont put a bandaid on it, you try to stick the arm back on.

Is 70c and 80c really that hot? I thought those were normal temps for running games like BC2. My m11x is less than 6 months old and I reach those temps after an hour or so of BC2.

Maybe you should stop using the stove as a computer desk... :)

When you game, is the fan intake blocked at all?

Bear in mind that the main air intake is at the back left of the base (you can see the fan!) and two other intakes are under the front left and right of the base. Make sure air can get to those intakes if you are doing anything intensive.

My R2 gets 75-84°C with games, it has been like that since I got it 10 months ago, and from what I see with other m11x R2 users, those temps are normal....

My GPU, well, I have never seen it above 65°C....

I agree with the people who have suggested compressed air. My M11x didn't show any visible dust, but it was getting so hot that I couldn't even rest it on my lap anymore. After blowing a can of air in the vents, my temperatures have dropped close to 20 degrees C on average.

That along with a notebook cooler with a fan should resolve most overheating issues.

Yes, it's very hot for an R1. When playing BC2 my 1.5yr old R1 never exceeds 50c for the CPU and 60c for the GPU; however, I clean my laptop every month.

Mines feels the same. I noticed that the temperature depends on what surface my laptop is on.
