All the sudden fan starts kicking it regardless if I am on integrated or 335. My only concern is it happens when simply watching something like a youtube video. The fan suddenly kicks in little by little until it sounds like 90 or full load and it won't shut off unless I put the laptop to sleep and resume or sometimes it doesn't turn off at all.
Any suggestions? I've tried restoring the bios back to default settings (currently on A05) but still no fix. Also tried a system restore as it only started happening yesterday after I reseated the ram because it was reading 2GB instead of 4![]()

Try a power drain (remove battery and Ac adapter, hold power button for 30-45 seconds then put battery back in and power on) and see if that does it
If not maybe flashing your BIOS will help -
Thanks Luis I will try the power drain when I get home from class later today an let you know how that goes.
I could probably do the BIOS flash on break, do I just installs A05 as if I was upgrading or do I need to follow a certain procedure.
Thanks -
Just install A05 as if you were upgrading
M11x R1: BIOS A05 -
Thank you Sir.
YES! Just wanna say thanks Luis it seems like the power drain solved the issue!! Appreciate it!
Okay nevermind guess it didn't fix it after all, tried to flash bios A05 but it won't let me saying I am already on this version. Any other suggestions? -
Have you cleaned the heatsink, or redone the thermal paste?
-
Have not tried that yet, from watching the video it looks like i need to do nearly a complete teardown?
-
Yeah, you got to take the whole thing apart to get a good cleaning done. Its pretty easy to do, just make sure you remember all your screws and where they go.
Repasting is also pretty easy, clean off the old, put on new, reinstall heatsink. -
Sweet thats good to hear, just didn't have the time during the week since i lunge it around school guess i'll have plans for the weekend, thanks for your response.

Okay so before attempting to open up the whole laptop, I decided to take a look at the fan speeds with Hwinfo and it turns out that the GPU fan is stuck at 100% is that normal? Am i allowed to control the speed manually? Thanks!
The cpu fan seems to be fine. -
There is only one fan, and it runs the gpu and cpu.
-
Had no clue, thanks. Would reformatting the pc help?
-
I would try repaste and clean first.
-
Okay so I know this is late but I got around to taking the whole m11x apart and finally reapplying the thermal compound on both the CPU and GPU but I am STILL stuck with this problem. The vents looked great I thought and was hardly and dust and I gave the fan a good cleaning but the fan still goes on. The temps to me seem fine, cpu will boot at a low 26 and idles around 35-40.
Hopefully I can find a fix its really frustrating and the fan is loud like hovercraft annoying. I would hate to sell this because of this problem, so far I've tried the power drain numerous time, reformatting, and now the replaced the thermal paste and cleaned out vents/fan. I also have a video of the fan on load if it interest anyone.
Any other options?? -
Try reading through this thread, it was started by me because I had a similar problem to yours.

Did you try re-applying the latest BIOS?
-
Thank you ashwin I will give that a read and see if I can find anything useful!
EDIT: thanks for the info ashwin my only concern is the fan does get quiet and i know it can run quietly but it randomly hits full load out of no where and that's when it gets loud and I can't stop it. I guess I could try oil are all fans the same and held by a magnet where you just pull up?
Thanks for the response. Yes I am currently on A05 and tried downgrading to A04 in order to reinstall A05 and the same problem persists. -
If any further help does come here is a video of the fan.

Yep, all brushless fans are made the same way. The only difference is that some of the bigger ones might have a small lock ring at the back which must be removed before the blade can be lifted off.
Have you checked to see if the temperature reported in HWinfo is accurate? The temps reading might be off, causing the fan to trigger. In HWinfo, there is a small fan icon in the bar at the bottom if you are looking at the sensors readouts. You can control the fan RPM through that button. Maybe you can manually control the fan speed when it gets too loud?
I live in a tropical country and my fan only comes on when I game. Surfing, music and movies, the laptop is passively cooled even running off a HDD. -
Ashwin, thanks a lot of your comments and time responding back I will look into maybe oiling up the fan, as for the the fan control I have played around with that a bit and it def gets quiet when it I control it manually just wished it never trigged to begin with.
-
I would say give Dell a call and see what they can do to help you out. I had mine replaced with a new heat sink! Good luck
-
Thanks for this tip, I never knew how to manually control the fan...never clicked that icon! +1
